My project will allow my students who are physically challenged more flexibility and independence. For my students that are non-verbal but have high receptive skills a chance to express themselves. For my students who are higher functioning more independence! I will utilize apps that are for children with special needs like "Learn with Rufus" or "Montessori Numbers". Learn with Rufus is about social cues and basic competencies. Imagine my non-verbal student being able to understand and express emotions like I am happy today or I need a nap! Montessori Numbers helps to build basic competencies for students that have difficulty with numbers and their relationship. To further explain how my class will benefit from having tablets as a resource in the classroom is based on the fact that each one of my students has an IEP(Individual Education Plan) with annual goals. Within the goals, there are academic goals such as identifying numbers, letters, colors, shapes by either pointing, eye-gazing or gestures. We have social goals such as learning emotions, etiquette, and playing with peers. We have adaptive self-help goals utilizing fine motor skills. For example, a student who is visually challenged needs a dark background, with a tablet I can make the background black contrast with large white font and help this student identify their numbers, shapes, etc. and therefore attaining their individual goal. Plus there are so many apps available for children with special needs which will take our children and their parents into the age of technology.
