  • Projecting Success With An Energy Efficient Projector

    Funded May 10, 2019

This project will make all the difference in our classroom this year. At the end of last year, our students got to open it up and experience what it was like to have a brand new projector. This new projector is so clear and much more engaging. We no longer have to turn off the lights or deal with the screen freezing and bulbs burning out. We had to clean the filter frequently in the middle of lessons with our old projector, but that won't be necessary with the new one. We are so grateful for the generosity of our donors who have completed this project for us. Thank you so much for making a difference in our second grade classroom!”

  • Learning Through Listening!

    Funded May 8, 2019

As our students are preparing to head off to third grade next year, we are setting them up for success with utilizing technology on their Chromebooks during our writing block. Each student is provided with their own Chromebook that can be utilized to research articles with information to help them write biographies. With that being said, many of our students have reading disabilities, and this can be a difficult task to complete independently. Thankfully, there is an amazing software called Google Read & Write that will read texts on a website aloud. Our students needed headphones to complete this independently and we are so grateful to the amazing donors that made that happen for us!

Additionally, the highlighters and flair pens were a HUGE hit! When the students opened the boxes, they were so excited to begin editing their work with fun, bright colors. They have grown so much from these types of activities and have learned that they can be successful and do things independently. Not only do they find research, but they then type all of their ideas into Google Docs. Read and Write allows students with disabilities access to speaking into the Chromebook to have the document typed for them. Google will also read it back to them, which is an amazing tool for these students. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity and your support of our full inclusion classroom! Your support truly means so much to us as we continue to educate the youth in the best ways we know how.”

  • Desks on Wheels Make Learning More Ideal!

    Funded Apr 17, 2019

I am still in awe of the fact that this project was fully funded! Anytime I talk to fellow teachers about DonorsChoose, we discuss how we should always have a dream project up in case something amazing were to ever happen. Well, IT HAPPENED! I posted this project in hopes of getting some furniture for my resource room. It currently sits empty and my students sit on the floor. I teach students with disabilities that have difficulty maintaining control of their bodies. This was a very difficult task to ask of them. This space is also used for a dance class, so we needed furniture that could be easily moved. These desks on wheels are AMAZING!

When the desks arrived and were put together, I didn't tell my students right away. We walked down to the room and they were in shock! They couldn't wait to sit in them! Instantly, I knew they were going to make a huge difference in our lesson. Each student had their own space to work in and they could be moved anywhere in the room to work. I am BEYOND grateful for your support. Truly, I will never forget the day I opened my email and saw "fully funded" and for such a substantial amount! This is such a dream and I can't say thank you enough!”

  • Feeling Clean & Ready to Succeed!

    Funded Apr 8, 2019

Let me tell you the emotions I felt as I opened the boxes for these materials. Part of me felt excited because who doesn't get excited when they get a package? The other part of me felt sad because I wish my students didn't need these materials, but that is the reality. Finally, I felt relieved. I'll never forget the day I had to get my student to a shower because of the difficult situation they were going through. I scrounged up materials and prayed for the best and everything went okay, but it could have been better. The student was grateful, but I knew that I needed to be prepared, so I reached out to you. You came through. You came through for me, but most importantly, you came through for these children. These children are going through more than I could ever imagine. I know for some of them, showering is the least of their concerns, but if I could help them in one small way, this would be it. So thank you for allowing me to help my students. Thank you for your compassion and your generosity towards this project. It'll make all the difference the next time a student comes to me needing these kinds of materials.”

  • Full Bellies = Fueled Brains

    Funded Apr 5, 2019

Wow! What a difference these snacks make in our classroom. There were so many days at the start of the school year when we would be sitting on the carpet and hear, "Is it almost lunch?" or "My belly hurts." We have such a late schedule this year and don't eat until 12:15. These snacks have made all the difference!

When we first got the snacks, the kids were SO excited! The fruit snacks are always a huge hit! We explained that there are amazing people out there that care about them and want them to get "refueled" to be successful in school. These snacks will last us for the remainder of the school year and will allow us to continue to provide snack every day during our writing block. They are so motivated by the snacks and are much more on task than they were before we started snack time. We are SO grateful for your generosity. Thank you, again!”

  • Clean Clothes & a Clean Classroom

    Funded Jan 31, 2019

This project has already had such an amazing impact on our classroom! Just recently I had a student inform me that the student and their family are homeless and living in a shelter. The student took a shower at school that day and to be able to reach into our closet and provide this student with fresh, clean clothes, was an amazing feeling. I never want to hear those words come from a student, but this student immediately knew that we were there for them and wanted to take care of them. This student loved the clothes that were picked and was so grateful! Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to do what I could for this student and their family - you have made such a difference!”

  • Build - Read - Write - Know!

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

Our new phonics curriculum requires the use of magnetic cookie sheets and a ton of letter tiles to build words. Previously, the students were expected to manipulate the tiles and build the words on one sheet. Since we have received these materials, our lessons have gone SO much smoother! These whiteboards not only create more space for our students to work through each word, but they can also write on them! We are so grateful for your generous donations and we look forward to many more successful phonics lessons in our future! Thank you, again!”

  • Sensory Solutions! (Part 2)

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

Sensory Solutions Part 2 was inspired by my first project with similar materials. I found my students to be SO much more successful when they were given the opportunity to take a break from the general education classroom to get some energy out. We used a trampoline, scooters, bounce pods, and pogo sticks. The pogo sticks were SUCH a hit that I had to write another project! That's where Part 2 came into play and we started thinking of ways we could make this accessible for the whole school. Our goal is to create a hallway or even a whole sensory room to give students access to these materials throughout their day. The vinyl paper will be great for creating graphics on the Cricut. The mermaid material is being used to create a sensory board for students to utilize during their break as a calming station. Thank you SO much for your contribution to our students' sensory needs. You have already helped make such a difference in our school!”

  • Sensory Solutions!

    Funded Feb 1, 2019

These materials have made ALL THE DIFFERENCE in our inclusion classroom. When we first got the materials, our students were dying to try them. They immediately had to try everything out and of course, they LOVED it all! Up until we had gotten the materials I had been having a hard time getting their attention during our phonics lessons. It is right after recess and they are still amped and ready to go. I used these materials as an incentive for anyone that focused and got through the lesson. IT WAS A GAMECHANGER! Everyone sat in their seats, followed along, participated... AMAZING! They just needed to know that they had to control their bodies during that time to then get the reward of jumping on the trampoline, the pogo stick, bouncing across the pods, and riding on the scooters. They had a blast!

Since then, I have been using the materials more throughout the day. I have one student, in particular, that has severe ADHD. She needs these to get her through the day. We take 5-minute breaks before the start of a new lesson and it has helped her tremendously! Our next step is to create a sensory room for the entire school to use these materials. Thank you SO much for changing the way my students participate in the general education classroom. They have benefited greatly from your generosity!”

  • Gaming for Good Behavior!

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

Thank you so much for your incredible donations! The new gaming room is in the works and will be up and running very soon! On the day the project was fully funded, a huge announcement was made to the entire school at an assembly. The students went WILD! They are SO excited to work towards earning time in the game room!

When the materials arrived, we brought the boxes in our classroom and the kids immediately knew what was happening. They were jumping for joy when they saw all the awesome stuff they were about to enjoy. Thank you so much for your generosity! This is going to have such an amazing impact on the students in our school!”
