Atticus, Scout, and Boo. What Can These Characters Teach You?
Funded Dec 11, 2011On behalf of my students, I want to thank you for your generosity. My students are engaged, excited and always prepared with questions and ideas about the book To Kill a Mockingbird. After a reading assignment, there is the inevitable classroom discussion about the rich characters or Harper Lee's brilliance as a writer. Only a book of this quality, which is so well crafted could provoke such thoughts and discussions.
During parent/teacher conferences I updated the parents about the work we were doing in ELA. When I told them the title of the book and how I was able to give every child his or her own copy of the book, many parents were visibly moved by this. One student is reading it with his grandmother, it is her favorite book and she can remember reading it when she was in high school. She told her grandson that she read this book more than once.
I hope the pictures tell the rest of the story and help to capture the power of reading and knowledge and discussions. This is what I hope to give to my students. Thanks to you, and your very generous donation I have another tool to do just that!”

Literacy! Linking Home and School
Funded Sep 2, 2008Thank you so much for your generosity. Today was my first day with my 2nd grade class (I also had them in 1st grade and looped with them and brought another 12 students along) and this is a sign to me that this will be a great year! This is very unexpected and very much appreciated. My students will soon have the opportunity to borrow these specially packaged take home books that include a reading journal and a stuffed animal that represents a character in the book or the subject of the non-fiction text. Each packet also contains a journal for writing and I am anxious to see what my students will write.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
