Our materials for our Student Operated Barista Cafe will not only assist in preparing my students with specials needs for the workforce but also allows them to take charge of their learning experience. Students will have the opportunity to work in teams and sharpen customer service experience. Students will be exposed to providing customer service, food preparation, cashier training, enhancing their active listening abilities and learning to use their Assistive Technology to communicate with other professionals on campus. My students are bright and eager to obtain competitive and integrated employment. By donating to our project, you will not only help to increase confidence among young professionals with specials needs, you will ultimately help position these professionals to obtain competitive and integrated employment. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations outside the classroom but there are still quite a few students that need a more stationary worksite due to multiple impairments and safety. Making sure students are given employment opportunities is an essential component to their transition plan and sets the tone for creating a fulfilling life for themselves. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given attainable and accessible work and volunteer experiences. They almost always make great choices about taking charge of their transition plan, are more engaged during their IEP meeting, and have a more informed approached to creating and completing their goals.
