  • Team Building and Friendship Making!

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

We thank you for everything you have done for us in our latest class project. My students will be able to sit with their friends and play different games. They will be practicing teamwork and collaboration.

They were excited on our latest "Fun Friday" because they watched me open the boxes and take out the new games!! They couldn't wait until Friday to see the the games again and choose which one to play with their friends!

Operation and Trouble were hits with many students! They could not wait for their turn to play.”

  • Look What's New!

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

This project was so successful for my class! They enjoyed opening the boxes from Donor's Choose and looking at all the new titles.

The books chosen spread across different levels and covered a variety of genres. I noticed many of my students gravitating towards the new graphic novel choices. They were excited to read the backs of the books to see which one was just right for them.

Several of the titles included in this project dealt with racism and emphasized cultural awareness. Through these books, I hope my students learn more about acceptance and humanity.”

  • Connecting with our Neighbors

    Funded Aug 24, 2022

We would like to sincerely thank you for all the fabulous resources you have provided to us for this school year. They were very excited when the boxes were opened and the supplies were seen. They immediately started asking questions about what we were using all "that stuff for". We explained to them that as part of our SEL time together, they would be planning and implementing some projects for families and community.

For the upcoming seasons, we will be making "Thankful Pumpkins". The students will be creating a Thanksgiving centerpiece. They will be writing about what they are most thankful for this season. The students will also be making "Holiday Cards/Crafts". These projects will then be donated to area nursing homes, shelters and other organizations.

We are looking forward to organizing and producing many projects for our community. We hope our students gain insight into the importance of sharing and contributing to others' causes.”

  • We Are All One

    Funded Feb 9, 2022

My students were excited to get some new boxes!! They assisted in unpacking them! They were happy to see some of the new books and items in the box, and couldn't wait to look at everything.

We recently completed a project in Social Studies on the "Founding Fathers". The students were asked to research a "Founding Father" and illustrate a scene. We then discussed the Capitol Rotunda and the paintings that are currently in the building. Upon completion of the research, they were asked to illustrate a scene they could include in the Capitol Rotunda. This is where the crayons we ordered were used!

We also received some read aloud books. Many of the titles were used in our SEL portion of the day. The students grabbed a carpet and sat down to listen to a story. We then discussed the book and talked about how they can apply the story to their lives. The puzzles were also a great addition to our basket of items for "Free Time Friday".

Thank you again for making these additions to the classroom possible.”

  • Jump Right In

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

We received our new books recently and the students were so very excited to open the boxes and see what was inside!! Many of the "reluctant readers" were anxious to check out the new BONE book series. We also received books in Spanish and my ELL students were elated to see something they could access!! Most of the books were signed out that day!!!

Each day we put aside 20 minutes to independently silent read. The students find a comfortable spot and get ready to get into their book. They also are asked to read 20 minutes for homework and were happy they were able to "take the new books home!!"

Being able to create a project with Donor's Choose is always something I look forward to doing. My students are thrilled to see our new classroom additions. Thank you for continually participating in these projects.”

  • New Books for a New Year!

    Funded Aug 30, 2021

Each day my students have 30 minutes set aside for independent reading. They spread around the room, finding a comfortable spot to sit and read. The books are lovingly displayed on bookshelves, counter tops, baskets and spinning racks. My students interview the books they're interested in and choose the book that's just right for them!

My class consists of 24 students, 7 of which are English Language Learners and speak no English. Part of my Donor's Choose project was picking out books in their languages. I was also able to purchase Scholastic News for the class (and use the Spanish Digital version for my students).

My student Robert was VERY excited to see some new titles on the shelves!! Desirae, Leena, Aaliyah loved looking through the book shelves and baskets for particular titles. They were all very grateful to receive new additions to our classroom!!”

  • I've Earned These Tickets...Let's See What I Can "Buy"!

    Funded Dec 13, 2019

Thank you for funding our latest project... "I've Earned These Tickets, Now Let's See What I Can Buy"....My students work very hard during the week to receive tickets. They get these tickets for homework completion, doing the right thing, helping others and quick transitions. They are able to "spend their tickets" in our classroom store!!

They are always very excited to learn there are additions to the choices they have! Some favorites this time around were the variety of new snacks, mechanical pencils and erasable pens!!

Our classroom store is a great way to promote positivity and responsibility!!”

    With gratitude,

  • Wipes And Kleenex and School Supplies....Oh My!!

    Funded Oct 24, 2019

I began writing my proposal for this project, I thought about the things we would need in the upcoming months. To keep ahead of the flu season, we ordered Clorox wipes, tissues and hand sanitizer. These have DEFINITELY come in handy in our New England climate! I knew my students would need to replenish their school supplies, so the pencils and folders were a necessary addition to our list. The colored pencils would be used in Social Studies/Science for projects and maps.

When the box was delivered, my students were excited to see what was inside. As I unpacked the box they gathered around and helped take out the supplies. They couldn't wait to open the Clorox wipes and clean the desks!!! We stopped the unpacking and everyone took a wipe and cleaned desk tops, tables and bookcases!! That has become a regular practice every Friday!!

We then put all the pencils and folders in our "classroom store". They will use their tickets they receive for homework completion, positive behavior and helping others to "buy" these new additions. The colored pencils we have already used to color in our maps in Social Studies and for a project on planets in Science class.

Thank you for making all this possible.”

  • Let's Get into a Good Book!

    Funded Aug 12, 2019

My students were so very excited when the shipment of books were delivered! They LOVED watching me open the box and stood around me while I took out the contents. They couldn't wait to hold the books and read the blurbs on the back. MANY of the books were "borrowed" right away!!!

As you can see from the pictures, there are many spaces around the room in which the students can read. They love getting a carpet (or two), getting the bean bag, or the rocking chair and finding that just right spot to enjoy some reading time. My students also "sign out" the books and take them home for some independent reading.

There were a few of the boys in the class who immediately were drawn to the graphic novels ( I think I need to order some more of those!!) Some of the girls had fun "interviewing" the books, trying to find just the right one for them!!

We all truly appreciate the opportunity given to us. These books will open their minds to a new adventure, a compelling mystery or even a little silly laughter! Thank you again for making this possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Coppinger

My students are a wonderful, creative, insightful bunch. They are a diverse group of students; coming from far away places like Portugal, Brazil, Uganda and even India!! Already this year, I can see they have a true love for learning. Their participation and commitment to having a safe and positive environment is heart warming. My students have eagerly poured over our classroom library searching for their "just right book", searching for the one that "pops" for them; knowing this is the only place they CAN get a book. Lots of them cannot go to a book store, the city library or even our school library. In many schools in our district, the students are not able to visit the school library; there are no librarians. Donors choose can open up Literacy opportunities for my students; we appreciate any donation.
