  • Support our Need to Read!

    Funded Nov 8, 2019

The books for my class are important for allowing children to be able to go into a listening center and hear fluent readers and work on activities while in reading centers. These books are interesting colorful stories that get the children excited about reading.

The scholastic news are magazines with different topics for the month that incorporate activities, videos, games, vocabulary words and an online component that gets students excited about real world topics.

My students that struggle with Reading enjoy these books the most because they can listen to someone read it to them. Thank you for giving my students this gift. To see the children smile and laugh while reading these books makes it so special.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Conti

  • Essentials for Children- Markers and Sharpeners

    Funded May 6, 2019

Thank you for understanding how important pencil sharpeners and markers in a classroom are. It's weird requests like this that make a teachers life easier.

Each day my students come to school with very little sharpened pencils. Sharpening 30 kids pencils could take forever and take away from their learning time. This pencil sharpener I swear takes 3 seconds to sharpen. Which is amazing!

The markers are used during writing time. They bring the pictures to life and help the students create beautiful pieces of art work to accompany their writing.

When I showed my students the new supplies they were so excited and appreciative that someone cared about them.

Our next projects will be an informational writing piece about an animal and their favorite state. Can't wait to show you how well they do.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Conti

  • Exciting and Engaging Literacy Learners

    Funded Aug 17, 2018

I am so excited to announce that the materials arrived right on time in September. As the boxes and table were brought to my class the students got so excited. After I explained that we were getting Scholastic News, Phonics games and a Guided reading table they had so many questions. Who bought this? Where did it come from? Is it for us? I explained to my students that my family, friends and people I didn't even know cared enough to donate money so they could have these things. My students smiled and couldn't believe that so many people cared about them.

Each day we utilize the new guided reading table for an amazing experience. In small groups we read together to see what are we doing well and what do we still need to work on in reading. This table helps me to get close and more personal. Some students are shy and you can really see them blossom when they realize they can read loud enough for only myself to hear.

The Scholastic News we use every Friday. It is has a Ondine component that goes over the vocab. words, video, read aloud and a game. It is a super fun way to learn about a topic.

The phonics games are used a daily during guided reading time. They are just a fun way for my students to learn phonics. They come with markers and dry erase boards that are easy to erase. They are learning so much.

My classroom is getting ready to have a marvelous December. We are picking for secret Pollyannas, learning about Hanukkah, Los Posada, LeBafana, SinterKlaus day, Kwanzaa, and Christmas. We will make menorahs, Kinaras and Wreaths. We are having a party on Dec. 21st and my students are really excited. We are working on subtraction strategies and writing informational writing pieces on their different states.

Thank you for thinking of my students and for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Conti

My students this year are lacking in literacy skills and I want to make that my main focus. The kidney shaped group table means that my students can focus and engage during guided reading for the best literacy environment. While I am teaching my group the other 24 students will be actively engaging in the Reading and Writing Instant learning centers. It is important that the other students are learning at this time because every minute counts. The Scholastic magazines are one resource that I believe is top notch. This magazine will come weekly with current events, literacy skills, smart board activities and online resources. My students will utilize these resources and become exciting and engaging literacy learners!
