Many of the items my students need are day to day supplies geared toward literacy development. The dry erase boards, sentence strips, magnet letters/numbers, pencil pouches, and sharpener are all necessary tools to help my students learn in what is typically their second or third language. The dry erase boards are one of my favorite items because they are so adaptable within the classroom setting. Students can respond to questions away from their desks, work independently or can work in small groups to find answers together. This type of peer collaboration can help their language develop quite rapidly.
With your donation, my students can become masters of the English-language! Hands-on learning is ideal for English-Language Learners, the best centers tend to be those where they can essentially place themselves inside the learning with pictures and such. The laminating machine, laminating sheets, and cutting tool are all items that help in creating centers that help build their vocabulary by creating memorable experiences with the letters/words. Throughout the year, centers are continuously updated to meet the needs of students. Laminating allows us to reuse the materials. The various shelving and bookcases will allow me to store all of the materials in a manner that keeps them accessible to the students during their independent work. It is so important for them to develop a self-motivated approach to their learning.
The whisper phones are also a unique tool that helps the children hear themselves when they are speaking. It can be incredibly difficult for my students to hear how the sounds they are making are similar/dissimilar to what a native speaker may say. By using the whisper phones during reading time, students are better able to hear and adapt their phonemes. My goal is confident, thoughtful learners, and your donation can help them soar!
