We All Need a Spot!
Funded Nov 20, 2018Thank you for your generosity and support in full filling my class project. The excitement began as soon as our custodian delivered the rolled up rug to our room. The delivery happened late in the afternoon during a read aloud. I thought about waiting to unroll it after school so as not to interrupt our day but that idea was short lived. The kids were so excited to see it the just couldn't concentrate. So, I went to get the scissors to cut the plastic wrap and when I turned around the kids were on top of it trying to rip the plastic themselves. I laughed and then we unwrapped it together. My students were all working together to unroll the rug, they gave each other instructions and helped get it properly adjusted. I just stood back and watched their teamwork in action!! I heard squeals of delight and ohhs and ahhs! The kids went crazy after rolling it out, they rolled on it and felt it with their hands, they layed on their backs and laughed. I was so happy that this project could bring so much joy to these little students of mine. After we calmed down and finished exploring the rug they chose their special spot. Each person has enough space to call their own, sit properly and focus on learning. We discussed how we would care for the rug and what we would do to keep it beautiful. Everyday after recess I hear someone say "make sure you wiped you feet, we don't want dirt on the rug"! Thank you for giving my students their own special spot! Its a wonderful opportunity to learn about how to be respectful responsible and grateful. My present and future students thank you!”
