Makerspace Monday With Makedo
Funded Oct 31, 2018Thank you again for your generous donations! Our students are having a blast using the Makedo cardboard construction tools. We are currently having a cardboard challenge and students are working in pairs to create an arcade game using cardboard. The tools are just what the students need to cut the cardboard according to the plans they created. The best part for me is that every student from kindergarten through fifth grade is capable of using these tools. I have students from every grade level competing in the cardboard challenge and we all love it! The coding caterpillar and bouncy seats are a huge hit as well!”

Creativity and Coding in the Library
Funded Nov 29, 2017Thank you so very much for your generous contributions to our project. Our Makerspace Mondays have really kicked it up a notch with the addition of our 3D Pens. Our students LOVE them!
They can not WAIT to get into the library on Mondays and get their hands on them. The pens have encouraged our students to be more creative and to push outside of their normal thinking. One less fortunate student created Valentine's Day gifts for her entire family.
Watching the students come in with such excitement has especially brightened my days. The 3D pens were the perfect addition!”

This classroom project was brought to life by An Anonymous Donor and 3 other donors.Create and Discover
Funded Oct 7, 2017Thank you so much for your donation to my project. Our students are having fun while learning at the same time. Being able to participate in Makerspaces gives students something to look forward to. They want to come into the library and have a chance to build something so they are behaving in class and being good citizens. These materials are improving our school in more ways than just making students think! The opportunity to build, create, tinker, explore, and discover is made possible through these materials. Thank you for believing in my project!”

Makerspaces in the Library
Funded Nov 8, 2016Wow!! Thank you so very much for your belief in my project! Our students are LOVING it!! They can't wait to get to the library each day to work on their Makerspaces.
One of their most favorite items is the Osmos. The way this technology can be changed to differentiate between different levels of learners is amazing. Kindergarten students can come in and sit down and use it and then a fifth grade student can come in right behind them and use the same piece of equipment. The students are having fun while they are reinforcing skills (numbers, letters, shapes, adding, subtracting, coding, geometry, etc.) learned in their classroom. They can't get enough!
Sphero is becoming its own little celebrity in our school. Everyone wants a turn with Sphero! Working with the robot and giving it commands is the bright spot in many of our students day-especially with the fourth graders. They are so intrigued and can't wait to see what they can command him to do next. It is so much fun to watch them figure out new thing. Then they get to teach me how!”

I "Wonder" What Would Happen
Funded Oct 9, 2015Thank you so very much for your donation to fourth graders at Castlen. Having all of our students in the fourth grade read the same book has made a huge difference in the amount of time students spend reading. Now, they all have something in common. This gives them something to talk about at lunch or PE. They are excited about taking the journey together.
Not only has it brought more attention to reading, but it has also brought more attention to how students treat one another. The moral of this story is that you always have a choice and that we should choose kindness. This has brought students together because now they are experiencing what one goes through when others aren't kind to them. They have had their heart strings tugged and I feel that this will make a difference in the kind of person they choose to be and in the way they choose to treat others, especially those who may be a little different.
Again, thank you for opening these doors for our students.”

Library Love
Funded Oct 31, 2014Thank you so much for funding our project, Library Love. Our school received a new pencil sharpener, a new book cart, and a set of books- The Watsons Go To Birmingham- 1963. Each of these items have been put to use in our library and have made their own impact.
Our fifth grade book club absolutely loved the new books. One student wrote that this was "the best book for young readers." The whole book club agreed that there were no boring parts in this book. As a teacher struggling to get children to read, it really means a lot to me that this was a book that they truly enjoyed. Without your help, these students would not have had this experience.
The pencil sharpener and the book cart have made the day to day library routines run so much more smoothly. The students and I are able to quickly get the books back on the shelf for check-out after they are returned. The pencil sharpener has been essential for research and writing down call numbers.
I really can't thank Chevron enough for the full support of my project.”

Mrs. Douglass
