I believe that kids are meant to be kids ~ and that means engaging in learning materials through a fun and creative process. Allowing students to interact with learning objectives through student-led creative activities allows them to solidify the concepts at an even deeper level. As a first-year teacher, it is my goal to provide my students with ample opportunities to learn through guided play, interactive projects and relevant crafts. I envision my classroom to be filled with materials that will engage each learner's interest, from STEM activities to art supplies. As an educator, I believe it is our responsibility to provide our students with opportunities to engage in a wide variety of activities and interests. This project is aimed at that goal, to create a learning environment where my students can take on any learning experience that is interesting to them. For example, during a literacy unit with a focused skill of visualization and listening comprehension, a student may choose to use the Geometric Shapes Building Set, Wiki Sticks, or construction paper/markers to create a model of how they envision a setting of a story.
