Super Start to 6th Grade Math!
Funded Aug 12, 2024We cannot thank you all enough for all of the supplies to support hands-on learning in our math class. These supplies provided my students with opportunities to engage in real-world mathematical learning experiences, which in turn, has created a positive classroom culture in our math classroom.
Sixth grade math class sets the tone for secondary math learning and having rewards for students to earn for their effort in math class has reinforced positive growth mindset. The students have been provided with opportunities to reflect on their learning and their learning processes by feeling good about their growth in math by earning a fun smelly sticker or yummy food treat, thus creating a positive experience in math class by showing how hard work and putting forth your best effort pays off.
The dry erase boards, markers, and doodle boards are an awesome way for students to show their work and calculate problems. These materials make learning math fun by providing students with a more hands-on and engaging approach to their learning.
My students have opportunities to attend a variety of math classes when they leave my classroom after this school year; and helping each student reach their mathematical learning potential this year is paramount. These supplies have helped all of my students achieve their math goals. Oh' the place they will go!”

Funded Aug 13, 2023We all cannot thank you enough for your generous donations to our class project, "Connecting Math Concepts Using Cubes and Tiles". The Unifix cubes that were purchased have allowed the students to "build" ratios and proportions which enabled them to "see" the relationships of the numbers. Students can struggle to complete all of the procedural steps required to solve equations, but through the use of Algebra tiles, the students have been able to build conceptual understanding!
The hands-on nature of activities using these manipulatives have illustrated concepts in a concrete way that has promoted understanding. These manipulatives have benefited all learners with varying academic needs throughout the past two school years.
The students have enjoyed being able to "see" and "build" math concepts through the use of these manipulatives bringing abstract concepts to life.”

Funded Jan 24, 2023The students in my 6th grade math class really enjoyed earning a treat every Friday for on-task, math collaboration. Each week the students were able to earn points daily for working collaboratively, remaining on-task, and perseverance toward daily math tasks. At the end of the week, the students with the most points were able to choose a prize from our new prize cart.
This weekly incentive helped to keep the students focused on the daily math tasks at hand knowing their hard work was going to be rewarded. This incentive also led to some friendly competition amongst student groups and class periods.
The students brainstormed a list of items they would like as prizes in the cart, so I was able to choose items that they most wanted to earn. The cart was organized by items (food, stickers, homework passes, etc.) and the students were thrilled each week to see the prizes they were able to choose from (this was also an incentive to win for the next week).
We cannot thank you all enough for your generous donations towards this project. It has really helped to make math class even more fun and engaging!”

Versatile Math Learning with VersaTiles
Funded Sep 7, 2022Thanks to all of your generous donations, VersaTiles have been in full swing this school year!
The students have been able to utilize this hands-on and engaging learning tool to reinforce and review math skills that have been learned in the classroom. The students enjoy manipulating the tiles, collaborating with their peers, and receiving the immediate feedback of correct and incorrect answers that the VersaTiles provide. The advanced VersaTiles have allowed the students who are working above the math standards to explore new math skills and further enrich their mathematical skill set. The students have used the VersaTiles as their independent practice, collaborative work, bellwork, review, remediation, and enrichment in our math class.
As you can see by the smiles on their faces, the VersaTiles not only provide meaningful mathematical practice, but the students really enjoy using them in the classroom as well!
We could not have had these learning opportunities without all of your generous donations and for that, we are truly grateful!”
