Inspire our Dual Language Students with Bilingual Children's Books!

Thanks to your generous donations, our school has been able to welcome parents from multiple backgrounds to read stories in their native language. We have also been able to send home weekly book bags to give parents an opportunity to continue reading children's books to their child in their native language.

I wish you could see how powerful it was to watch a parent read a story in their native language, and then in English. It allowed all the students listening to dive into another culture, even for a 10 minute story. The most powerful part was watching how it empowered the student whose parent came in to read. This was THEIR language, and it was being celebrated by their peers.

This project sparked opportunities to help bridge the gap with literacy in students who are dual language learners. Many are now bringing stories home to read with their families, and some parents encouraged to learn English alongside their child.”
