The World at Our Fingertips
Funded Oct 16, 2018Thank you so much for your generosity. Your contribution has made a world of difference for my students. Because of your donations, my students are all able to use our online learning websites to help them in our class activities and lessons. The math websites that they access allow them to not only practice the skills we are currently learning and receive immediate feedback but also let them work on individualized lessons that meet the children where they are. Our reading websites work in a similar way and offer the students a variety of books to read on various topics and levels. While some students are working on their assignments in their technology stations, others meet in a small group with a teacher which allows for much more individualized attention. None of this would have been possible without your support.
The Chromebooks are very exciting for the students. The children really love to work in their technology stations especially with the brand new laptops from all of you. Being the first class to use these Chromebooks is a very exciting notion for the children.
My more reluctant readers are eager to use the laptops because the reading sites they access have features that allow the students to listen to the book first. This makes their reading experience much more enjoyable and they become that much more engaged in the lessons.
Once again, thank you all so much for your support and generous hearts! We really appreciate it.”

Funded Apr 17, 2018Once again, thank you so much for all of your support. My students have put the Chromebooks to good use! They are now able to access the learning websites that enhance our lessons. These websites meet each learner where they are at and provide activities at their level to supplement their learning.
I think the students are most excited to use brand new technology as opposed to the dated technology available to share in our school. These Chromebooks work faster and without many of the complications we had grown accustom to. In my opinion, the students that are most excited for the Chromebooks are my lower level learners and special education students. The programs they are able to access allow them to feel successful at their instructional level and work at their own pace.
Thank you all for giving my students this amazing gift!”

Funded Mar 10, 2016Once again, I want to thank all of you for your generosity and helping me to implement technology into my classroom. Today it's hard to imagine a world without technology and in most classrooms that is the reality. In my school, we are very limited to the technology that is available. My co-teacher and I have been trying to implement station learning. This model allows us to meet with small groups of students to work on a skill while the other students work on independent work. We spend about an hour in stations and rotate our groups every 20 minutes so each student can go to each station as well as meet with a teacher. We tried to incorporate a technology station as one of our independent workstations. Before the tablets came, I spent most of my precious instructional time in stations trying to get the laptops to work for my students and if they didn't work, I had to disappoint them with an activity that did not involve technology. I find technology to be an engaging, exciting part of education and one that will prepare them for the world that they will be expected to navigate. Now that we have these tablets, every single student in my class gets to have a turn during station rotation. During this time they access a site that allows them to read books on their level, have the books read to them, and take quizzes on those books. As a teacher, I am able to monitor all of their activity and plan my instruction based on that data. This is only one site that we use and I hope to incorporate more in the upcoming weeks. Since the tablets came, we have been able to meet in stations 2-3 times a week compared to once every two weeks before we had the tablets.
My reluctant readers love the tablets. The best part about the tablets is that although every student is working on an individualized lesson, it all looks like they are doing the same thing; which gives confidence to my struggling readers. The opportunity to use the technology motivates them and has them asking me daily, sometimes hourly, "When are we going to do stations?"
I cannot express my gratitude enough for helping me to reach my students on a new and innovative level. Thank you so much.”

Funded Nov 2, 2015Thank you all so much for your generosity. These Leapreaders have had a significant impact on my students.
Due to the lack of technology available in my classroom, it has been hard to have enough technological opportunities for all of my students. The Leapreaders have provided a much needed, engaging way to read with technology. We have incorporated the Leapreaders into our station learning. This activity breaks the students into groups. For 20 minutes the students partake in various reading activities and then they move to the next station. The Leapreader station was an instant favorite. My students ask for station learning on a daily basis now. Even my lowest functioning students love reading time now and look forward to it.
I believe the Leapreaders are exciting to my students because they provide an interactive experience. In addition, the story is truly brought to life for them with music and questions as they read. Many of my children have difficulties with reading and often spend so much time decoding the words of a text that they don't get a chance to understand what is going on in the story. The Leapreaders allow them to listen to the story and explore details and aspects they may have missed if they were reading on their own. It also builds a sense of independence, as they do not have to ask a teacher to help them with a word they are unsure of.
While all my students are excited about the Leapreaders, I find that the special education children in my class have really embraced them. Many of these students hated independent reading and were unable to sit and read for longer than 2 minutes. This technology holds their attention and interest for a much longer period of time.
Once again, thank you so much!”

World Travelers
Funded Dec 17, 2012I would like to begin by saying how truly grateful we are to you for your generous donation. The books that you donated have supplemented our new literacy unit in many ways. These books are differentiated on a variety of reading levels so all of my children are able to enjoy them on their own independent reading levels.
The class is using the books to research a country of their choice for our informational unit of study. The majority of my students have never left their hometown. These books have opened their minds to how big the world truly is and the differences and similarities that we all share. The illustrations and photographs are incredible, as well as, the information. Through this donation, my students have a new found appreciation for the genre of nonfiction. They also are becoming experts on different countries throughout the globe.
Once again, thank you so much for your support.”

Readers Need Leveled Books To Borrow
Funded Dec 8, 2011I would just like to personally thank each and every one of you who helped by making a generous donation to my classroom. The take home library has the students excited to read. More and more of my students are completing their reading homework assignments thanks to you! The books are wonderful and are leveled so each student can pick a book that is just right for them.
Without your help, there would only have been a handful of my students reading books at home on their correct level. The rest would have had to depend on books that were too hard or no books at all.
In a world full of television, computers, video games, and other technological distractions, it is a struggle for teachers to have their students even consider reading books. Thank you for giving me the resources and making my struggle a little easier.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Capraro
