Choice Seating
Funded Nov 9, 2023Thank you so much for your support of my project! It always amazes me the support I receive through my projects on Donor's Choose. My students were so excited when the boxes arrived. They came in four large boxes and the students had no idea what they were. As I opened each one, their excitement grew! They all wanted to try the new chairs right away.
Now that we have had the chairs for a few weeks it is so nice to see how they students have settled in to their new seats. I use flexible seating in my classroom and these chairs were the perfect addition. We have wobbly stools, stadium chairs, and yoga . balls. These mushroom chairs are fun but a sturdy option for the students to work at.
Each week students choose where they want to work. They also can choose during the day, at certain times, to sit where they will work best. I love that they have this opportunity to work in a space that works for them. They use their new chairs everyday and they are loved by all the students. Thank you again for your support and dedication to my students and our project.”

Funded May 11, 2023I wanted to thank you all for donating to my project. Your commitment to my classroom and donation was so appreciated. The students were so excited when the packages started to arrive. As the new seating items were opened, put together, and pumped up, the students couldn't wait to try them out. They took turns over the next 6 weeks trying all the different seating options. Many students had favorites and they were able to choose where to sit. We got many comments from other staff members and students from other classrooms comment on how awesome our classroom set up is. They all wanted to try the new seating options. Thank you again for your generous donation and support to the students in my classroom and at Mittineague School.”

Continuing Our Masterpiece Journey
Funded May 3, 2022Thank you so much for supporting the love of reading in my classroom. In January, I read "Masterpiece" by Elise Broach to my class of second graders. It was part of a whole school read that our school was a part of. My class loved the book so much I began looking for additional texts. To my delight I found this series of books that were on a second grade level. The students were so excited to be able to get their hands on these books that they were able to read themselves.
Students were put into groups and each group read a different book from the series. Some groups were able to read on their own while others were guided by me or another adult. Students worked on skills of prediction, character characteristics, setting, problem, solution and comparison. They did a wonderful job and were excited to read another book.
Students were then able to take additional books home. Every student was so into this project and we are grateful to all of you for providing them with this series of books. Thank you all again.”

Operation Organization!
Funded Nov 15, 2018Thank you so much for the generosity and kindness you have shown our classroom. They students are learning to be organized and take care of their own property and property that we share in the classroom. I think one of my favorite moments was when they students were showing any other adult that came into the room out new items. They are truly grateful and appreciative of everyone's generosity.
When the boxes arrived the students were so excited! They waited patiently with growing anticipation about what the items would look it. "When will you open them?", they asked. We opened the boxes together and with gleeful shrieks they saw what was inside, our mailbox and seat sacks. I'm not sure what they liked more. The mailbox is beautiful and we will have it for a long time! Now they have a spot to put their things so they won't get lost.
Our next steps in learning about organization is be self motivated to be organized. I am trying to pull away some of my guidance and let the students decide what is better for them. They can choose to use their seat sack, and the folders inside of it, to put their papers or they may choose to use their mailbox. Whatever way is helpful to them. They are learning responsibility and taking ownership of their organization.
Thank you again for all the support both inside and outside of our classroom! Onto our next project!”

Passion for Print
Funded Mar 12, 2015Mrs. Gerardi and I want to thank you for your generous donation to our classroom project. Our new printer and accessories are a wonderful addition to our classroom. We are able to print and the students are able to access their work right away. We have taken pictures of our students and they were able to write stories to go with their photographs.
The students recently wrote a story about finding gold at the end of the rainbow. We set up a "photo booth" in our classroom and we took pictures with the accessories for their stories. The students loved having their picture to inspire their writing.
Your commitment to our classroom was so thoughtful. We have a wonderful community that cares about our school. I hope you know how grateful we are and we appreciate all your have done.”

iPad For Second Grade!
Funded Dec 12, 2013I am writing to say thank you for your generous donation to my classroom project. The students and I were so excited when our ipad was delivered. The students look forward to using the ipad during center time and have access to the applications that I have installed onto it. Students are improving their skills daily because of this ipad.
We are so lucky to have you as one of our donors. We have been able to use the ipad as a hands on tool in reading, writing and math. During math centers students can show their work and have partners check it. They also can use manipulatives, created on the ipad, to help them answer, organize and figure out a math problem. I have found some wonderful apps to practice geometry, facts, time and money. Students also can use the ipad to read stories. With their headphones they listen to stories being read which helps model fluency for them. The ipad is also an incentive for students. I use the ipad to grab their attention which results in learning at a quicker pace.
I have also found some apps for me, as the teacher. I can keep track of their reading levels, level my classroom books and chart their progress. There are apps to help with classroom management and organizing classroom libraries. The abilities of the ipad is endless and I am learning about new things I can do with it everyday. As a class, we blog online. I am also able to use the ipad to take pictures and videos of the students doing their daily activities. I then post these onto the blog for parents to see what is happening in the our classroom.
In public schools we rely on the community, friends and family in order to gain the necessary materials to teach in this ever changing technological world. The generous support from individuals like you make it possible for my students to learn and grow. Thank you again for your donation.”

Tech Learning Center
Funded May 11, 2013Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom project. When the tablets arrived, my whole class was excited. They knew that these tablets were going to make a difference in their learning. I was able to take the tablets home that weekend and load them with new apps and get them into the student's hand by Monday.
I used the tablets in our math and reading centers. Each child was able to use the tablets at least once a day. The tablets are loaded with math, spelling, and reading apps. The students use the app that applied to them. During the next school year, I will be able to personalize the tablets more. I will have different folders for each student and the apps that apply to them will be in that folder. I am excited work on that this summer.
I also received a technology grant through our city business partnership. This is going to allow me to purchase many e-books for my classroom. I am using the Storia app through Scholastic. These books are available at different reading levels and genres. This is also something I will be able to work on this summer.
Thank you again for your devotion to education. Without the help of people like you our classrooms are unable to grow. Your donations allow teachers to continue to make their classrooms a better place for all children.”

Come One, Come All!
Funded Oct 16, 2012Thank you so much for donating to our new classroom rug. I can not express enough how having a new rug has changed my classroom. Not only did my class get a new rug but we gained a sense of community. We have a real space to meet in the morning and talk about our day.
Because the rug was so big, we had to change our room around. We found 4 tables and are know using them instead of the 24 desks we had. With the new space we created a reading corner with nice lighting and bean bag chairs. My students love to sit on the rug to do quiet work, buddy work, listen to a story and use the SMARTboard.
Thank you again for your generous donations. The new rug makes our classroom seem more like a home away from home.”
