These math manipulatives will be a powerful addition to my math instruction. These hands on manipulatives will allow my students the opportunity to learn with their hands. Students will be able to physically see why their answer is what it is. It will allow my students to visually represent math problems. By having these manipulatives it will allow my students to be active learners instead of sitting in the chair listening to me lecture. Manipulatives will give students a way to make abstract ideas concrete. By having these manipulatives it will also be a powerful tool for assessment for my students. Students will be able to use these manipulatives to help draw them away from workbook and textbook assignments. These manipulatives will boost student confidence in their understanding of a concept and allow them to have fun while learning. The 2009 What Works Clearinghouse report Assisting students struggling with mathematics: Response to Intervention (RtI) for elementary and middle schools includes using visual models and manipulatives as one of its research-based recommendations.
