Let's Go Crazy for Ukuleles!
Funded Jul 24, 2021I am so grateful to have this project fully funded. I have been making plans and I am very excited to start this unit with my students. I know the students will enjoy this portion of our music class! You have made them so happy and they don’t even know it yet!”

We Will Not Rest Without Shoulder Rests, Part 2
Funded Oct 3, 2019These shoulder rests have been so very helpful for the past few years. Students have checked them out for the school year, or for periods of time until they are able to afford their own shoulder rests. They are so happy when I assign them a shoulder rest to use, and seem relieved to know that they have all of the materials that they need for class and to be successful on their instruments.
These products do go through a good bit of wear and tear through the years, so I may need to replenish our supply at some point in the coming years. Thank you all so much for your continued support of my classroom and my students.”

Mrs. Calore
Violins for Everyone!
Funded Nov 27, 2018The violins that were bought through this project are helping our students every year. This past year, the violins were played by a few really deserving students who diligently practiced and who were very grateful to have the instruments. These students worked very hard and make major improvements. One of the students is looking for their own violin now and plans to continue playing violin through high school.
This year, new students will be given a chance to use these instruments at Irmo Middle School. I look forward to seeing what awesome kids will play these violins this year.”

We Will Not Rest Without Shoulder Rests
Funded Sep 14, 2018You would not believe the excitement when our students lined up to "check out" a shoulder rest for the year. They each signed a document saying that they would take care of the shoulder rest while it was in their possession. Their playing positions have already improved , and we are working to form new good habits for holding their violins and violas with their jaws rather than their hands. The shoulder rests allow students to hold their instruments properly. Everything about playing our instruments is based on a solid playing position, especially intonation and tone.
Because of your generosity, the students feel more confident and more motivated in Orchestra. And, with this new confidence, they will experience success, boosting their self-esteem and overall musicianship.
Thank you!🎶”

🎶Tuned to Perfection🎶
Funded Aug 13, 2018We are off and running with our new Snark tuners! The students are learning incredibly fast, how to tune their instruments. Our class time is being used very efficiently because of our tuners. Students are so excited that they have ownership of their own tuning. They love that they do not always have to rely on the teacher to tune their instrument. The students are also learning how this new technology works, which has probed many great questions. They are so proud of themselves.
When the students walked into the classroom, and saw the 30 brand new tuners, they were SO excited. I explained to each class that these tuners were donated to our class by people who care about them. They were not bought by the district or the school, but by people who simply care about their success and who see the importance of what they are learning. They were so responsive to this, and are so very thankful. The students are taking great care of the tuners and are helping each other, without many reminders, because they are so proud to have them. I have been very impressed with how they have handled the tuners and followed the rules that I have laid out.
We will continue to use our tuners at the beginning of each class. Students will begin ear training and tuning by ear, as the year progresses. This will increase their fine tuning and give them the ability to tune in different ways. These tuners have changed the dynamics, pace, and student ownership in our classroom. Thank you again, donors, for your generosity!”
