  • Watch Us Write

    Funded Feb 6, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation towards our English Language Arts supplies. The whiteboards and tagboards will enhance our learning of the English Language in our attempt to become successful readers and writers. As a teacher, I know that students need hands-on experience to develop a deeper understanding of what they are learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burch-Zimmerman

  • Bridging the Reading Gap by Developing Skillful Readers

    Funded May 3, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to help me support my students in small group interventions. The materials will be extremely helpful in meeting my 6th-grade students in developing their reading skills, filling in reading gaps, and building their literacy confidence. Again, thank you so much for supporting teachers, students, and the classrooms.”

  • Mrs. Z.'s Baskets and Baskets of Books

    Funded Jul 4, 2020

Thank you so much for your donations towards are book bins. I am so excited to be able to start organizing my books and labeling the bins. Students will be able to find their books of interest so much easier once I am done with setting them up. The bins will also help me determine what books I need to purchase in the future.

Currently, I have the book bins on my back shelves of my room. In non-COVID years, I have had an awesome library corner. The corner had shelves at students level where they go see the books and relax while reading. I look forward to having my reading corner again the future.

Besides organizing the book in the bins, my future projects will include: buying more books of various genres and levels to fill the bins and to design an inviting book corner. I will need sturdy shelves and comfortable fire retardant furniture.

Again, thank you for supporting reading in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burch-Zimmerman

  • Traveling the World Through Books

    Funded Aug 28, 2019

My heart is so full of joy, watching the excitement of my students engaged in our new books. Our thems is "Oh, the places we can go!" We are traveling the world through books. Using our books as windows to see into other worlds, mirrors to see ourselves and connect with our own lives, and sliding doors to take a step into a new experience or world.

My favorite book we received through your donations was "My Librarian is a Camel." The book shared how children from 13 different countries got their books to read. We learned that children get their books from libraries on boats, buses, camels, donkeys, and even carried on people's backs. The students never realized how lucky we are in the United States to have free education and to have libraries in our towns, schools, and classrooms.

Thank you for donating so I could share all these experiences with my students through books.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burch-Zimmerman

  • Our Classroom Rocks!

    Funded Feb 13, 2019

Thank you so very much for donating towards our rocking chairs. Our students use them every day. It was so much fun coming into the classroom and finding two huge boxes waiting for us. Our two classroom handymen put them together for us. It was a good experience for them to follow the directions and collaborate on how to get them put-together and stay together. We have them at our tables and students who need or want to rock have the opportunity to use the rocking chairs. A couple of students use them all day, one needs it for testing, and some love them for rocking and reading. The only problem we see is that we do not have enough of them. I am planning on doing another project next year to add a few more to our classroom. Again, thank you for supporting our project and helping our students' individual needs and preferences for seating.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burch-Zimmerman

I am inheriting a classroom with just desks. I want to switch over to flexible seating for my students that includes an assortment of chairs and furniture. I also would like to add seating that encourages and allows for movement such as stability balls, rockers and motion stools. Flexible seating changes a classroom from teacher-centered to student-centered. Students learn best when they have a choice in where they sit, can move, feel comfortable, feel a part of a community, are collaborating and communicating, are meeting their sensory needs and are having fun. Flexible seating meets the needs of all students for the greatest opportunity for learning and growth.
