Middle school is an exciting time to capture student interest in science. For the first time, my students are experiencing daily science instruction. They are eager to learn; but easily distracted. Hands-on exploration drives their learning and provides opportunities for discovery as real-life scientists and engineers. Incorporating technology in data collection as well as opportunities for student-led inquiry investigations motivates and engages my students. Many students come to class with few experiences and connections to the concepts being taught so giving them the equipment to explore in a safe environment may be the link to engaging them in the fields of science and engineering. My hope is to create a positive, fun science experience which opens the doorway to the world of STEM careers for these impressionable, inquisitive middle school students!
