As a teacher of English learners who struggle with learning, it is hard for them all to access distant learning. I have had the privilege of teaching these students for the past two to three years and know how hard this time has been on them during SIP. Moreover, there is a lot of anxiety and stress during this unknown period in their homes. I want to be able to give my students something that will help them get through this time. Please help give my students a care package that will help them with social-emotional issues and help increase their literacy and creativity. The closure of our school for the rest of the school year makes it increasingly hard for my students to have access to books and supplies. Each item in this care package will help support my students' literacy exposures, creativity, and voice. To support students' exposure to novels, I have chosen different young adult novels (The Giver, So Far From the Bamboo Grove, The Outsiders, and I Am Malala) that range in readability. Each student will receive an individual novel that fits your needs and ability. Students will use the journals and writing tools (pencils, pens, and highlighters) to express your feels about the books and reflect on themselves. The sketchbooks will allow them to creatively express themselves in art. I want to give them educational items that will help support their learning and expression without the need for technology. Items like a book to take them on an adventure, a journal, and sketchbook to be creative, and small snacks and toys to let them know that they are cared for, which can help them during this emotional time.
