Our music department has a rich heritage in an older community, however the past several years of budget restraints are beginning to take a toll. We are a small school district in a community that truly loves and supports the arts through their attendance at events and through whatever fund raising we attempt. Our theater program is excellent with cast numbers in the fifties for both musicals produced each school year. Our high school chorus program serves one fourth of the entire high school population. I have the privilege of teaching 7th and 8th grade general music, 6-8 chorus, 9-12 chorus and a high school music theory elective. My chorus room is adequate to house the choral groups averaging 90 high school students and 60 middle school students. The general music classroom, however, is small and the newest technology we have is a flat screen TV on a cart with a combination VCR/DVD player.
