Flexible Seating For Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities
Funded Jul 7, 2017Thank you for your donation to our classroom. We use the wobble chairs and ball chairs daily to give us extra movement while we are working. We love using them when we are focusing on our work no matter the subject.
When we first saw the chairs we were so excited to put them to use. We saw them in other classrooms but never had the opportunity to use them. We used them on a daily basis to help us concentrate on our difficult 6th grade class work.
The next steps for us are getting more chairs for our classroom as we will have double the class size this year. We hope to be close to 100% flexible seating thus school year as it has helped us immensely thus year.”

Feed the Students and Let Them Learn
Funded Sep 8, 2017Thank you so much for donating to our school. We are so blessed to have people in the world like you that support our children in all ways necessary. The students from this area of Orlando do not come from a lot and these necessities help them get through the school day. With the nature of my classroom I am teaching within the room half of the day and out with the general education population for the other half of the day. Frequently, students will say that they are hungry because they didn't have breakfast or dinner the night before. I let them know that there is always food available for them in the pantry in my classroom. I will frequently have students knocking on my door asking for food to get them through the day.
My students were without words when we first received the donorschoose packages. When I told them that a donor had given them to us for them they were speechless. They couldn't believe that there were people in the world like you. People who were selfless enough to give out of their own pockets so that they would not be hungry at school.
The next steps for this project is to apply for more materials as we are running very low. I have also been trying to reach out to students who have behavioral difficulties outside the classroom and mentor to them when they come for food during the day. My hope is to be able to send each student home with a backpack of food on the weekends, if they need it. I have many plans and I know that through donorschoose grants I can help this community's need through the food program I would like to start. My hope is that by running this program there are no students on campus who are not doing well in their academics because they are hungry and can't concentrate. A simple thank you isn't enough but for now it will have to do.”
