My English Learners need engaging hands-on activities that are challenging at the same time that they provide scaffolding for students as they acquire their new language skills and improve their listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills. My students love playing games and interacting and the resources I am requesting will make learning fun for them. The requested materials for this project will help me differentiate instruction for my students as they build critical English language skills—from writing sentences to listening and following directions. The English Language Learner Games Library will be perfect for them to play in pairs or small groups as they learn the basics of written and spoken English. The English Language Development Skill-Building Centers will be used independently while other students are receiving small group feedback and instruction because they have self-checking features that enable students to get immediate feedback. The Accountable Talk Reading Discussion Starters will help students learn how to have academic conversations with sentence frames. The 30 double-sided wooden sticks have discussion starters on one side and response ideas on the other. Students use them to talk about any text—boosting their ability to express opinions, cite text evidence and more as they go. Finally, the illustrated Nonfiction Sequence & Write Tiles will help students write a nonfiction passage with a clear beginning, middle and end. I am excited that each tile even has a word bank on back to help children get started. Please help the students in my class meet their language proficiency goals! With these resources, I will be able to better serve the language needs of my students. Thank you for your consideration of this request for funding.
