Social Emotional Learning Centers
Funded May 8, 2024Thank you so much for prioritizing Social Emotional Learning in schools. Teaching students at this age strategies for self-regulation is a priceless gift. Without your generosity, my students would not have access to the tools this project has provided. When I hear the students support each other throughout the day as they struggle with classwork, are upset, or feel sad by using the strategies or support of the learning tools my heart is filled with so much joy. Once again thank you so much for your support of funding this project.”

Funded Jan 9, 2024I have started using these amazing materials this week with all of my classes. The students were so excited to try out all of the new learning tools. They were filled with so much joy. The are especially interested in using the Cloud Clay. It is one of the most sought after tools to use for self-regulation. I overheard to kindergarten students discussing the breathing mats. One said how she wishes she had these at home to help her practice her breathing when her younger brother bothers her. I am so grateful for your generosity.”

Funded Mar 30, 2023Thank you so much for funding this project. You have brought so much joy to my weekly sessions with my students. These materials have helped students with self-awareness. We have been working on naming our emotions and then knowing what we need to self-regulate. That is where these sensory tools come in. Students in grades Pre-K through 2 have been using these tools to assist them with when they need help regulating their emotions.
These materials have inspired classroom teachers whose rooms I visit to write their own Donor's Choose projects to acquire there own sensory tools.
Thank you so much for your generosity!”

Funded Sep 29, 2022The sensory items that this project has given my students have been an amazing addition to my Social Emotional Learning program. I have been implementing the use of the Tilt Turn Sensory Windows and Rainbow Viewers to support students that need to take a Brain Break. This has been working very well and my kindergarteners have learned to ask for Brain Breaks when they are feeling tired, over stimulated or upset. I have used the Sensory Shapes and Emotion Friends to anchor students during breathing activities. They trace shapes as they breath or squish them for sensory input. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your generosity.”

Funded Sep 7, 2022I have been using the amazing resources that I received with all of my Pre-k through second grade classrooms. Young children have a hard time expressing how they feel. The felt emotion boards have been very helpful with this. Students that are unable to express themselves orally due are able to use one of these boards to show me how they feel.
I am working with the students on self-regulating their emotions. The puzzle boards have been a great tool for students that need to take a brain break during learning activities. I can not thank you enough for your generosity.”

Funded Jun 24, 2022Thank you so much for supporting the amazing students at PS 212Q. The students are truly enjoying the Little Spot books and plushies! Many students in kindergarten and pre-k have used the plushies to demonstrate how they are feeling when they have been unable to find the vocabulary that best represents their emotions. The multicultural crayons have been a huge hit. The students have been able to find crayons that match themselves. The look on the faces of students and adults when they find a crayon that is similar to their skin color is breath taking.”

A Little Spot of Feelings!
Funded Dec 16, 2021My students LOVE all of the Little Spot books. When I enter a classroom the kids (from Pre-K-5th grade) as me if we are going to read a new book and if I brought the plushies with me. The kids really love listening to the stories with the plushies. These texts have allowed me to engage the students in conversations about their feelings and give them tips on self-regulation. The kindergarteners have even created illustrations of their own Little Spots. I can not thank you enough for providing my students with these amazing materials that have helped me help them with Social Emotional Learning.”

Tools for Self Regulation!
Funded Jan 8, 2021Reading aloud to my students has always been a part of my daily routine as an educator. Whether it was first or fifth grade. Read alouds are an amazing way to engage students, spark conversation and address issues. About 5 years ago I began my own mindfulness practice and I began to teach my students about it as well. This pandemic has caused a lot of trauma and isolation for both adults and children. The books that you have generously provided my students with have helped me to teach my students to recognize their feelings and process them. Thank you for your generous donations.
Currently I am teaching on Zoom daily. I am able to use a document camera to share books with my students. This is as close to reading aloud in person as the pandemic allows. The kids love to sit and listen to the stories that you have given to us.”

Characters that Look Like Me!
Funded Jan 1, 2021Reading aloud to my students has always been a part of my daily routine as an educator. Whether it was first or fifth grade. Read alouds are an amazing way to engage students, spark conversation and address issues. Over the last twenty years in my career picture books have changed a lot. In my early days of teaching the main characters were animals or reflected only a small portion of the population I taught. Today the are main characters that my students can identify. This is due to the physical characteristics, family structure or neighborhood that they live in. This is providing my students with exposure to different culture, language and a place to connect to the challenges many characters face. Thank you for your generous donations.
Currently I am teaching on Zoom daily. I am able to use a document camera to share books with my students. This is as close to reading aloud in person as the pandemic allows. The kids love to sit and listen to the stories that you have given to us.
My eldest son is twenty years old and recently wrote a paper about the books I am reading to my students and how they did not exist or were not accessible to him as a child. He is an English major and loves reading. It has made him so happy to see these books shared with my students.”

Learning From Home During a Pandemic!
Funded Dec 29, 2020The document camera and headset that I received have positively impacted my teaching in so many ways.
Having the document camera has allowed me to conduct read alouds while providing the students access to the text as I read. This has helped with engagement and motivation. Due to the complex nature of teaching during a pandemic engaging my students in all learning activities has been my priority. Being able to zoom in on specific paragraphs or only displaying part of the text has been wonderful. The document camera has also allowed me to provide my students with lessons that mirror those that would take place in person. I am able to underline and circle important information in the workbooks to support and scaffold their learning in real time.
The headset has been a huge game changer as well. Although I think I look strange teaching with a headset on, the kids think I look cool. Being able to put them on and tune out all of the sounds around me has been great. It also allows me to amplify my voice for students whose work environments are loud.
There is NO possible way I would have been able to teach from home without this document camera. I was using my cell phone attached to a bendable arm to project work for the students. This method was clumsy and there were many technical difficulties. Thank you so much for both the headset and document camera.”
