  • Help Us Rangle Some New Wrestling Shoes!

    Funded Dec 16, 2024

From the bottom of my heart, I wish you could see how much these shoes have impacted the wrestling community at Lowell High. These students' unwavering strength and determination towards their dedication to the sport is unlike anything I've ever seen. They've gone from nothing to making great success in wrestling and pride of our school, making the girl's wrestling team despite the lack of equipment, using duct tape to bind their shoes into makeshift wrestling shoes and old mats, and yet they've come a tremendous way. These shoes have excited the students to attend practice, use them in matches, and even shyly thank me for the opportunity to play without the embarrassment of their equipment.”

  • Put the Period on Periods! (Please)

    Funded Dec 2, 2024

It was truly amazing to watch the joy on students faces when they opened our huge boxes to find sanitary products for our school. These young women are proud of being able to keep our bathrooms stocked with supplies. They don't mind that sometimes the supplies disappear quickly, because they know that means people need them and are using the products.

Students have stored all of the product in a safe office, and go every Monday to refill and restock bathrooms across the school. Our school has over 3,600 students, meaning at least 1,800 girls, and the impact of this project is huge. Thank you for your continued generous support of our school, community, and DonorsChoose.org”

  • Education Pathway Cords and a Chromebook!

    Funded May 8, 2024

A computer! and graduation cords and sashes just in time for graduation! Thank you so much for bringing a new Chromebook to our classroom. I will get this one set up this year to use next year. An extra Chromebook in the classroom is invaluable. To help students continue their work seamlessly even if their Chromebook is dead or missing. The graduation cords are stunning and will be worn with pride by seniors who have completed the education pathway. These students have completed a course of study throughout high school, which included behavioral sciences, social justice coursework, and a capstone project, which included an internship. These beautiful silk cords represent a huge amount of work and accomplishment.”

  • Help Bring Some Basics to Our Classroom!

    Funded Mar 9, 2024

This project brought nice pens and expo markers into our classroom. I also purchased really nice magnetic folders for organizing classroom work. The pens and markers have been used all spring by the students. There is nothing like going up to the whiteboard to work collaboratively with many different colors that actually work!!! The delight of writing with a good expo marker may sound a little silly, but in a classroom, it is honestly a gift that brings me joy. Thank you so much for your continued support of our classroom and community. Thank you so much for filling our room with so many treasures.”

  • Chromebook and Sharpie Chrome!

    Funded Sep 14, 2023

My students use the Chromebook donated every single day. It feels like a gift when I do not have to stop class or print out an alternative for students. When students walk into my room and know I will not give them a hard time about their device, I will hand them one to borrow for the class - they feel welcomed. The metallic Sharpies and Post-it notes have all been put to good use. I can write notes of encouragement, put students in group work, and give students paper for notes, all with ease.

The multi-colored folders have been handed out liberally and with delight. Thank you so much for your support of our school and my classroom.”

  • Classroom School Supplies

    Funded Apr 24, 2023

The photos may just look like stacks of binders for this project or a box of glue sticks, BUT the materials are so much more. Every year I need students to have binders for our African American Literature course to keep all of their materials together. We create an anthology of reading for our class, and we must have a place we can refer back to to make connections. These binders are perfect! and will be used by 50 students next year. The highlighters, glue, and scissors have already been used dozens of times this year. Thank you so much for supporting our school and students. Thank you so much for using DonorsChoose as a platform to allow teachers to magnify the work we are doing!”

    With gratitude,

  • Chromebooks for Success!

    Funded May 10, 2023

The ability to hand a student a Chromebook so that we can continue class seamlessly is so empowering. I am so grateful for our community of support for our large urban school. Students often don't have charged Chromebooks because of so many variables in their often unpredictable lives. I am so pleased to be able to provide this resource for them with brand new Chromebooks which will continue to be housed and maintained in my own personal classroom. Thank you for your generous continued support. Thank you for caring about public education. Thank you for your commitment to our students.”

  • Reading Diverse Voices in Style

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

I was so thrilled to start my year by adding new books to our classroom library. We are living at an amazing time in literature where my students are finding characters in novels who look, sound, and live like them. As many of us do, I took for granted that I spent my childhood reading stories about white characters living in settings with which I could easily identify. I saw myself in the pages of most books I picked up and this fostered my love of reading and learning. I love nothing more than to look up from my grading and find a student standing in front of my sheepishly holding a book to tell me about how great it was, or how excited they were to read it. Thank you so much for donating to our classroom. Thank you for supporting my students and our community. Thank you for caring about education.”

  • Coloring for Calm

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

I have now held 4 "coloring for calm" Flex blocks for students at our high school. Students choose to join my classroom and are greeted with low lights, calming music, nature scenes on the TV, and beautiful coloring books and markers to color with. Students come in and sit in small groups at tables and share these large packs of markers. They are so excited to come in and hang out with friends, talk quietly or not at all, and decompress while coloring. Just because they are in high school does not mean that they don't love a good coloring book. Thank you so much for your donation to this really fun project. I am so appreciative.”

  • Diverse Books & Diverse Voices

    Funded Jul 1, 2021

I am way past proper thank you letter etiquette, however my appreciation is still in extremely strong. These texts are amazing! And we used them all last semester in our race and ethnicity class as well as in African American literature. Thank you so much for taking the time to give resources to our classroom. I am thrilled to start my 21st year teaching in this amazing urban school, and beyond appreciation for your support in purchasing these books. My students are excited to read, and excited to share what they have read. Thank you for helping me to create this space.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bauer

I teach English Language Arts to 10th and 12th grade students. Our community is high needs because of the low socio economic status of our student population. The diversity in each of our classrooms is truly unique to my district. The high school is 23% Hispanic, 29% Asian (Approximately 85% of the Asian population in Cambodian), 6% African and African American, and 41% White. 15% of all students are special needs, 65% are on free or reduced lunch, and 30% are English language learners (2008.) The diversity in our city and school can be attributed, in part, to the thriving immigrant community our city supports. An immigrant community brings with it a unique set of challenges which can be supported through donors choose! Thank you for your support.
