  • Temperature Matters When Looking At Matter!

    Funded Dec 31, 2017

I am so overwhelmed with the generosity of all the donors! Thank you for making learning more accessible to my students! These thermometers will be here just in time for the when we start chemical reactions. Thank you for helping my students have readable thermometers that are NOT falling apart!

I am excited to tell my students that there are people who care about their education!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bates

  • Classroom Printer for Differentiation

    Funded Dec 4, 2017

Thank you so much for your generosity! I will be able to now quickly print off differentiation activities for all my students that need them.

I have so many students with a language barrier that need a translated agenda, students that need extra help and students that are bored. This printer will help me cater to ALL my students that need support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bates

  • Science Notebook Supplies

    Funded Nov 14, 2017

Wow! I am overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement! These supplies are going to aid in their interactive learning in science! I am so excited to tell my student what has been generously provided for them. These donations will make creating, completing and taping assignments into student interactive notebooks possible! With limited funds, my students are in dire need of pencils, pencil sharpener, staplers, tape and markers. Thank you for giving my students what they need to be successful!”

  • Science Manipulatives and Stress Relievers!

    Funded Sep 24, 2017

Due to the generous donations, my students are able to use magnets to show the speed and spacing of molecules on the board in the classroom. This visual aid has helped all my students understand the abstract concept of matter and it's interactions by being able to physically see and move the magnets around. I have also used the magnetic tape to post terms, motion lines, and arrows on the board so students have even more visuals of how molecular movement and spacing changes due to phase changes. The magnetic tape along with the magnets have done wonders in helping students visualize molecules.

The stress balls have also really helped the dynamics of the classroom. Students who are extra fidgety borrow a stress ball to quietly work with as they complete assignments. This has helped students to stay focused and also is looked at as a reward by my classes and not something "weird" that has to be pointed out. The stress balls are a big success and will continue to be used throughout the year and years beyond.

My magnets and magnetic tape will continue to be used as we go through Phase changes. My students are currently learning about condensation. After condensation, the magnets and magnetic tape will be used to demonstrate freezing, deposition, and melting. (They have already learned sublimation and evaporation) After their unit test in phases of matter, the magnets will be used to demonstrate the parts of an atom and chemical reactions.

My students and I are excited to continue using these generous gifts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bates

I teach 7th grade Science to 150 students in a school with 70% free or reduced lunch. I firmly believe that science is best taught doing hands-on labs. This way students have experience with the concepts and have a sense of ownership concerning the units taught. My classroom is a very safe but fun hands-on environment. I do a lab or other hands on activity at least once a week. At the very beginning of the year, I even had students create their own name tags using shaving cream and food dye as a fascinating phenomenon as part of my introduction to chemistry! Science and fun mix very well in my classroom. Due to all the labs we conduct and variety of needs each student requires to be successful, there are supplies and technology items that I cannot afford to buy on my own. If you decide to donate to my classroom, you will be helping educate and change lives of our future citizens!
