We need a beloved "story space" a communal seating area with warm colors, where our class can gather for announcements, reading, and celebrations. Currently, our reading area consists of a stained, 3rd-generation carpet and two camping chairs, one of which is broken. The materials I am suggesting for my classroom will create inspiring, light, and airy spaces that make my students feel good to be at school-with living plants, comfortable seating options, and warm colors.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase our classroom community, you will ultimately help to increase my students' academic achievements, attention, well-being, and focus. The arm chairs, floor cushions, storage benches, and stools will help my students by giving them additional seating options during reading block and throughout the day. The storage benches will also hold fluency phones, other reading supplies, and books. The white storage bins will be used for books. They are durable and will replace our current broken and distracting book bins.
The rug will be a comfortable place to read and to gather together. The fluorescent light filters will create a calm and soothing environment by decreasing glare and flickering that cause eyestrain, headaches, and even anxiety. The canopies and mounting brackets will be used together to create an atmosphere without blocking out light. Finally, the planters will be used for live plants which are known to improve student performance and indoor air quality.
I have seen how having an appropriate, well-thought-out physical environment can lead to student success. I hope the space I create with these materials will be inspiring and help my students be able to find a place that is comfortable for them and that will ultimately help them grow even more!
