What a Wonderful World: Little Learners Love Geography
Funded Aug 30, 2015It was a wonderful surprise for my students to receive their beginner atlases this fall. We enjoyed browsing the new books to build background. After a brief familiarization period, we began to learn about the differences between maps and globes. We studied the oceans and continents. We learned to read the key on a map.
As Thanksgiving drew near, my students were ready to trace the trip made by English Pilgrims to North America. They were excited to make a real-world connection to their atlases. Each set of partners used their atlas to answer questions about the trip from Plymouth, England, to Plymouth Rock, USA.
We look forward to using these atlases in the months to come. They will be a key part of our Social Science curriculum as we learn about people and places around the world. We are sincerely grateful for your generous donation.”

Listening Centers For 21st Century Readers
Funded Dec 19, 2014My sincerest thanks to you for your generosity in funding my Listening Center project. My students were overjoyed to receive brand new books and three iPods use when listening to stories. They couldn't wait to get started listening to all the new books! Previously, my students shared an outdated CD player and earphones repaired with duct tape. CDs skipped frequently, disrupting each story unexpectedly. Thanks to your donation, students enjoy an assortment of new books on a reliable iPod.
In our classroom, we run five reading and writing rotations each week. These rotations include "Reading to Self", "Reading to Someone", and "Listening to Reading". Your donation has provided my students with an opportunity to hear outstanding literature read by notable narrators. "Listening to Reading" has easily become one of the most popular rotations.
When students listen to fluently-read literature, it reinforces their own reading fluency. Your generosity has allowed my students to flourish as readers. Even more importantly, it has supported and encouraged their love of reading. Thank you again for your contribution.”

Generation Tech: Listening Centers for 21st Century Readers
Funded Dec 15, 2011As our school year draws to a close, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for your generous donation to our class. Thank you so much for making our dream a reality. The three iPods bring fluently read literature to 25 eager young readers.
Our literacy program has five components, and without the iPods, we could not run the workstation titled "Listen To Reading". Our dilapidated CD player was on its last legs, and could be used by only one student at a time. But your thoughtful donation is a gift of 21st century technology for these little readers. The iPods allow my students to listen to their favorite titles through the earphones. During our literacy workstation rotations, my students select several picture books, an iPod, and find a comfortable place to read.
The students are delighted to listen to literature through their earphones. The musical accompaniment, as well as the sound effects, bring the stories to life. The "Listen To Reading" workstation has become quite popular in class.
The second graders wish to thank you for thinking of us, and for your generous donation.”

Funded Dec 29, 2010It is my sincere pleasure to write and thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. I have long wanted to teach instrumental music to my students, but I wasn't sure where I'd find the funds to pay for materials. Your donation has helped make my dream a reality.
When I first wrote my project, I taught 25 second graders. But due to budget limitations, my school had to create two split-grade-level classes in January. I regretfully bid farewell to 9 second graders, and enthusiastically welcomed 8 third graders into my "combination" class. But I remained hopeful. I was the proud owner of 25 new recorders. What a perfect way to integrate the new class; music instruction! It is a special privilege for the third graders to have a new class and a new musical instrument of their very own.
I am honored to teach music at a time when reduced funding has eroded arts education. And I am so grateful that donors like you can help public school students study the arts. Thank you again for your generous donation, and for your support of the arts.”

Funded Nov 4, 2010What a joy it is to open a box of new books! And how joyful I feel when I see the faces of the little readers in my class. It is my honor to thank you for your donation to my project. My class and I truly appreciate that you have helped us experience the pride and enjoyment of completing a whole book.
The books that you have funded enable my students to read and discuss literature Their reading fluency is improving, and they are developing higher order thinking skills during "literature circles". These books help them make connections to our unit themes. The students are breaking out of their grade level readers and enjoying their own book from start to finish. This is something they have longed to do, and your donation is making it happen.
We are gleefully anticipating our winter and spring sessions with these books and our imaginations! ”
