  • Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

I want to start off with a HUGE thank you from the bottom of my heart! My students are absolutely thrilled about the new reading series that I was able to purchase through this grant. We are currently reading the set of Bunnicula. Students find this book to be fun and just the right amount of spooky for Halloween. It is a mystery that keeps the students wanting more.

I'm using this book set to help students with reading fluency daily. Students are also working on a variety of basic comprehension skills via this story. My class is growing their vocabulary with this book set as well. Students will read with a partner, in small groups and with whole group instruction as well. There are class discussions about the story.

Students can't wait to read the set of Thanksgiving on Thursday right before the Thanksgiving holiday this fall. They love the series the Magic Tree House and it is the perfect reading level for third grade. We will read the amazing, classic story of James and the Giant Peach this spring since it is a bit more challenging. My class loves this author so I know it will be a big hit! Thanks again for encouraging the love of reading in my classroom.”

  • Reading Rocks

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

My students were absolutely thrilled to receive this wonderful gift! The class was overjoyed to have a nice new set of headphones! They were eager to put them on immediately and use them! The students use their headphones daily for a variety of learning purposes. They listen to audio books that have a nice selection of stories not

available in my classroom. They are also used to listen to a daily announcement from the teacher. This includes a short video inspirational clip for the day. Students use the headphones for state testing purposes as well. These are just a few ways the headphones are helpful to our students and there are many more!

The book Tornado is a classic chapter book that is perfect for this age! My class will love reading this fun, book. We will read this book as a whole group, small group and with a partner. We will work on a variety of reading skills such as sequence of events, main idea, point of view and cause and effect. This book is very flexible to be used for so many different skills. It will also improve reading fluency. It is of high interest for my students so I know it will also help increase their love of learning!”

  • Hoop Dreams

    Funded Nov 6, 2023

Thank you so much for being so generous! My students were absolutely thrilled with the boxes started arriving with all the wonderful books! The students had specifically asked for books about sports and their wish came true. I now have a couple of book bins full of books all about sports and athletes! I have several students in my class this year who play sports. This is a personal connection for them and has helped them to be more excited about reading. I find that they are reading more and are eager to read these new selections in my classroom library!

Reading in my classroom is a quiet and peaceful setting. Students have comfy chairs and rugs to sit on. I conference with students individually during this time to help them find books that are of interest and at the appropriate level to help them best succeed.

Some of the skills and lessons that these new text provide are diversity and culture. Many of my students know very little about soccer or hockey for example. Those sports are not as common in our area. These books will give students a glimpse into many new sports and the lives of the different people that play them.”

  • Let's Get Ready to Rumble!

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

The student and I are absolutely loving our new resources! The students cheered with delight when I showed them the new Uno game and all the Jenga sets. They have loved using the Uno game during our classroom inside recess time. Students are also using the Uno set during our classroom reward board game parties.

We are using the Jenga sets for review games. The students find this fun and exciting! Both were a lot of fun.

I was so happy to introduce the students to the new doorbell tool. The students love the fun songs this transition tool provides. It also is the perfect amount of time for students to move from one center to the next successfully. This tool has made classroom management easier for sure! I love using my new staple removers for bulletin boards and daily uses in the classroom. The paper cutter is also being used on a daily basis for a variety of tasks. Thank you for these wonderful items!”

  • Something Is Eating Our Pencils

    Funded Mar 20, 2023

My class was overjoyed when the boxes started arriving! Students were so excited and wanted to help open the boxes. They were truly so thankful. I even heard one student say, "Wow! This is so cool." We started using the items the very day they arrived.

Students were eager to use these new sharpened pencils. Everyone was quick to get their own new pencil. Students also love using the new pencil sharpener to keep their pencils sharpened. The sharpener works so quickly that students are able to get back to work in no time. The colorful pens were a huge hit on our special Wednesday Pen's Day. Students look forward to Wednesdays all week now.

The file box and folders are being used to house student materials. This helped greatly with organization. It made the classroom look much nicer. All of the items are being used on a daily basis. This will be a gift to be enjoyed not just this school year, but in the future as well. Thank you for your support.”

  • Helpful Headphones

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

My students are so thankful for your most generous gifts! Wow! The students cheered happily when I gave them their new headphones. Students are so excited to have a brand new pair of headphones just for their educational use.

Students are using these headphones to practice math facts, and spelling words. My class uses an online reading program for enjoyment a few times a week as well. The headphones make using this fun program possible!

Students are also able to use the headphones for intervention times. These headphones are being used daily by all students! They were a much needed gift!

Students are also thrilled with the tiny amount of time it now takes to get pencils sharpened in the morning via our new pencil sharpener. The class smiled happily with the new folders that we will be using for our morning math program. All gifts are being used daily and with heartfelt appreciation. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

  • For the Love of Reading

    Funded May 5, 2022

Thank you so very much for your generous donations. This grant has and will continue to touch the lives of many students. The students were so excited to have new book selections. I have one student who is a reluctant reader, but the Minecraft books made him want to read! My students couldn't wait to dive into these new, fun books!

In my classroom we have a daily silent reading time. While students are reading, I conference with students about their goals. Students are excited and encouraged to read for the love of reading. Students are given the opportunity to explore the new books during this time as well. I also include a fun read aloud time that students always enjoy. I plan to incorporate the kindness books into these read aloud times throughout the school year.

Students love learning about new vivid characters provided in these interesting stories. They love being taken away to far away lands and enjoying the settings that had yet to be discovered. Students are learning plot through the series of actions taking place in each story. They are able to use these books to practice basic comprehension skills as well. Students learn about different genres by reading a wide selection which these books provide. These books are truly invaluable. The books have had a great impact on my classroom.”

Students will use these costumes in our annual Folk Tale unit. Students are excited to make their characters come to life and these costumes and props will certainly make that happen. These costumes add great fun and enthusiasm to this timeless unit.

  • Student Goals: Conferencing in the Classroom

    Funded Oct 25, 2019

Wow! These gifts have been an amazing game changer in my classroom! I'm using the pub table and chairs as a more central location to teach from in the center of my classroom. I have better teacher/student proximity than ever before! This helps increase student engagement and assists with better classroom management in general! I'm also using this space to hold special conferences with students for their reading and math goals. The document camera allows me to teach closer to the students as well because it is cordless. The camera also offers various new features that provide new technology advancements in my classroom!

My students lit up like a Christmas tree when the boxes arrived! I'm not going to lie, there were even squeals of delight! Students could not wait to see what new, wonderful gifts had come on arrival day. My students were even cheering! They were so very appreciative as am I.

These valuable items will be used daily in my classroom for years to come. The students feel special getting to conference in this warm area. I also know that with better focus they will make great gains academically. Thank you for being so generous.”

  • Rock and Read

    Funded Aug 14, 2019

This gift has had a tremendous effect on my students! The children were so excited to see these gifts arrive with each day! I enjoyed seeing their eyes light up as they watched with anticipation to see what that day's gift would bring. I would watch as the smiles appeared on every face. Students were literally jumping out of their seats when the packages would arrive with these gifts because their excitement level was so high!

    They were never disappointed!

I am using the new night stands with drawers for two purposes. The first is being used to hold all my read-aloud books that I share with students during our story time. The second is being used as a tool for organizing materials to use in class. The rocking chair is being used daily by the students during their silent reading time! They love it! I also use it to sit in during our class story time and read to the students.

The organizing tubs are being used to create a classroom library that is easy to navigate! The students are enjoying this luxury as am I. Students can find the book series they want to read in a timely fashion now. The storage cubes are being used to organize a variety of math materials in the classroom. The mini boards are being used for spelling and math activities daily. Thank you!”
