  • Caterpillars, Ladybugs, and Fish, Oh, My!

    Funded Nov 18, 2024

First graders love science! This is especially true when they get to watch our pet fish, ladybugs, and butterflies in our classroom. Students were fascinated with our king male betta. He is an extra large red and blue betta fish. The 5 gallon tank has led lights, plants, gravel and fun decorations for our class pet.

The ladybug larvae came in a clear tubbing which contained dry food that helped them develop into gorgeous ladybugs. We also put fresh water on a sponge to help them grow. Students observed the metamorphosis process. When the larvae emerged their color was pale. As the ladybugs ate raisins that we placed in their cage their color turned to a vibrant hot pink!

The butterflies larve came in a small plastic cup. Students watched the larvae split their skin many times as they ate their food at the bottom of the cup. My 1st graders loved watching the large caterpillars go into their chrysalises. Finally, these insects emerged as beautiful painted lady butterflys.

Thank you Young Sheldon and the Campbell Foundation for helping my first graders get to watch the metamorphosis process in action!”

    Mrs. Kunzler

  • Basic Supplies: Seat Sacks & Name Tags Needed!

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

Thank you Dr. Tania Sasaki Errett and my anonymous donor for gifting our class new seat sacks, raffel tickets, and nametags! We use these items daily. Students store their headphones, mice, and computer log in cards in our seat sacks. Students really appreciate having extra space to store these items. Space in a classroom is limited. Not only do the seat sacks fit neatly on their chairs, but a nametag goes into a clear pocket on their seat sacks too. When substitutes, administrators, or peer helpers need to know a student's name, all they have to do is read the convenient nametag. Also, kids can locate their own chair easily with this system.

The raffel tickets are used to pick prize winners in our classroom. This is a part of my behavior plan in the classroom. The more tickets they have at the end of the week will increase their odds of winning a prize. They look forward to our Friday tradition.

Thanks for helping my first graders start the school year with these awesome supplies!

    Happy New Year!”

  • Fabulous First Grade: Basic Supplies

    Funded Nov 18, 2024

Thank you to the Maxwell/Hanrahan Foundation and the Campbell Foundation for taking our basic supplies project across the finish line! Occasionally, students accidentally break their headphones. Thanks to your kindness, students will be able to replace their headphone. They use these headphones throughout the day while completing online math and reading programs.

I use raffle tickets as a part of my behavioral management system. Each Friday, students turn in their tickets for a raffle drawing where 6-8 students get a prize. We go through many tickets in a year. Thank you for keeping my classroom stocked with thousands of raffle tickets.

The sensory bubble poppers are fun to use with beginning addition or subtraction skills. Students can push down the bubbles to add, or push up the bubbles to subtract.

Students love using these manipulatives to complete basic math problems.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity! Happy New Year!”

  • Back to School Basics

    Funded Nov 18, 2024

A big thank you to the Campbell Foundation and the Maxwell/Hanrahan Foundation for taking our basic supplies project across the finish line! Students were excited to get brand new scissors that we use daily. Students use the scissors for phonics papers, math puzzles and art projects. Keeping our classroom germ free will not be difficult now that we have many canisters of Clorox Wipes. My aide wipes down the keyboards and student desks on a daily basis. My aide and I work with students around a horseshoe table. The clipboard holder is very convenient for passing out and collecting the clipboards, erasers, and pens. The adorable stickers and animal erasers are fun rewards that students can earn for reaching milestones or for their hard work.

As we come back from winter break, my classroom has all the basic supplies we use on a daily basis. Thank you for selecting our classroom. Thank you for helping my sweet first graders!”

  • Stem: Robotics and Building Blocks

    Funded Nov 18, 2024

Thank you to the Campbell foundation for funding our robotics and building blocks project. Students love programming robots. My first graders love making our mouse robot run through a block obstacle course. Students worked in pairs as they guided the mouse through the course. They learned how to back up the robot and use the forward, left and right buttons to maneuver the mouse around blocks.

As we return from the winter break, our stories in our reading curriculum will focus on technology, space, and robots. The build a robot spinner game was a hit with my students. They took turns spinning and landing on a new part to add to their robots. The puzzle pieces were easy for my students to use and up to four students could play at each session.

The majority of students loved setting up ramps and circles to watch 100 dominoes fall. Students worked in groups of five to build and watch their domine creation fall down. At first, they were not successful in setting up large displays of dominoes. However, with more patience and practice they were able to use all 100 dominoes as they watched each domino fall and knock the next one down.

A special thank you to the Campbell Foundation for making this project come to life!

We appreciate your support and kindness! Happy New Year!”

  • Going Back to School in Style!

    Funded Nov 18, 2024

Thank you to the Maxwell/Hanrahan foundation and the Campbell foundation for funding basic school supplies for our classroom. My students want to vaccum our floor everyday. They love using it before school too. Lots of little paper scraps fall to the floor and the vaccum is picking up these scraps. In fact, the other teacher's in my wing like to use the vaccum for their classrooms. The colorful hanging swirls with apples and pencils make our classroom decor fun for students. I will be able to reuse these decorations every year I teach.

Some students need help gripping the pencil correctly. One student in particular was not able to form letters correctly due to her incorrect grip. After a few days, the pencil grip helped her handwriting dramatically. I gave her mom a pencil grip to use at home and I am very grateful that the grips helped this one student. My aide is using our new calculator to grade our weekly spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and phonics tests. It has big buttons and works using solar power.

Thank you for these basic supplies! We are off to a great start this year. Thank you for selecting our class to fund.”

  • Classroom Prizes for Meeting Reading Goals

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

Thank you Owala for funding classroom prizes for my 1st grade students. We are a few weeks away from the end of the 2nd quarter and my students are reading many books to reach their reading goals. As a motivator to reach those goals, I reward students with small prizes. Each quarter, more students meet their goals. I selected snowflake keychains, Led Flashlight keychains, winter themed drinking straws, and glow rings for students to choose a few prizes for their hard work. Every week I tell students what they need to do to meet their individual reading goals. A few students are on target to double their reading goals. Students will receive double the prizes if they read twice as many books. However, these students must average 85% or higher on their comprehension score to pick double prizes.

My 1st graders are solving math problems in an online program called Next Generation Math. I gave out glow rings for those students who scored 100 percent in the program. Students were thrilled to get these fun rings.

Thank you for helping me re-fill my treasure chest. Thank you from 25 happy 1st graders and their grateful teacher. Happy holidays!”

  • Ravenous Readers Need Books

    Funded Oct 6, 2024

Thank you Linda and the Sonic Foundation for purchasing books for our classroom library. The Super Pigs series of books has giant colorful pictures of well known fairy tale characters. The Super Pigs always save other famous fairy tale characters from the villains.

11 students made their first quarter reading goals. These students read at least 8 books, although most of these students doubled or tripled the number of books required to meet their point goals. In addition, these 11 students had a comprehension score that averaged to 85% to 95%.

We just started quarter 2, and my goal is to get 22 students to reach their reading goals. Most students read enough books, but they need to improve their comprehension scores. Reading each book 2-3 times can help students improve.

Thanks Linda for these beautiful books that my students enjoy reading. These books will motivate and inspire my young readers to reach and achieve their reading goals. Thanks for helping my first graders blossom into confident and fluent readers!”

  • Turn the Pages Of Your Imagination and Read

    Funded Oct 4, 2024

Thank you Mary, Sonic Foundation, Lama Atiyeh, and Marlin Atiyeh for funding our book project. Students are enjoying the Ready Freddy and Super Pigs series of books. The Cool Bean was a funny book I read aloud to students. Many students reached their reading goals during the first quarter. Thanks to your donation of books, more students will reach their reading goals in the second quarter too. Some students are coming early to school to take their AR comprehension quiz on their laptop. My First graders love our new books and enjoy taking them home to read. Our classroom library is growing, and a few of my students are reading chapter books.

I do have students who need to read below grade level books to gain confidence as they bravely take their computer quiz on that book. Over the last few weeks, I have noticed that more students are able to pass their book quizzes. Thank you for expanding the selection of books available to my sweet first graders. Thank you for these 21 fabulous books!”

  • Let's Go On A Reading Adventure!

    Funded Oct 24, 2024

Thank you Alex for funding our reading project! As you can see from the photos, my students love the Fly Guy series of books. Students are working hard to meet their quarterly point and comprehension accuracy goals. A few students are starting to read chapter books too! I love Lakeshore products and have been using them for over ten years. The Lakeshore comprehension books are great for my beginning readers. The short stories give my students extra practice decoding words and writing answers to comprehension questions. I especially like the long vowel passages with silent e. This is a critical skill for beginning readers. Completing the activities in the Lakeshore comprehension books have boosted the confidence of my first graders.

Alex, that was very sweet of you to drop off a care package from Lakeshore. Thank you for the Lakeshore cup and note board. Throughout my teaching experience, I have loved using all the wonderful products supplied by your company. Thank you for funding our reading project! We Love Lakeshore!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kunzler

My 27 students range from gifted and talented to below grade level. Our school has won many prestigious awards and has high state test scores (in the 900's)! With increasing class size, and no extra funding, I am trying to offer this class the same quality reading program as I have offered past classes. Sincerely, your help would be greatly appreciated!
