Basic Supplies for a Successful Year!
Funded Oct 24, 2019Thank you Maria and my anonymous donor for funding basic supplies that my students and I use daily. My parents appreciate that I send our weekly homework packets inside sturdy laminated folders. Thanks to your generosity I will be able to send homework into these colorful folders for the next three years. I started giving out the puffy stickers for special achievements and to motivate some students to complete assignments. My students love earning the puffy stickers. They absolutely love collecting the different stickers in their own sticker book. This year we received HP chromebooks and I used our colorful dot stickers to assign computers to each student. The students have enjoyed doing special writing projects on our legal wide ruled paper. Thank you for your generosity, kindness and support! The students will enjoy these supplies for years to come.”

Funded Oct 22, 2019Thank you Mrs. Shackelford and Volkswagon for funding our classroom supplies project. We recently used our new watercolor paint to make a sunrise or sunset art project. Students wrote a summary of Caribbean Dream to place under their fun watercolor art projects. The stapler is put to good use daily. Parents make work packets and homework packets using our new stapler.
I laminated my student's colorful nameplates and taped into them to the top of their desks. The United 10 port UBS charging station helps keep our iPad mini tablets organized and charged in a small space. Thanks to your generosity, my classroom will be organized and we now have the basic supplies we use daily in our classroom.”

Funded Oct 16, 2019Thank you Chevron for purchasing a digital camera that we use for many special projects and events. Recently I took pictures of my students posing in front of our carnival booth. I also used the camera to capture a fun memory of our class Halloween party. Our new HP all in one printer and copy machine is mainly used to print color certificates of achievement for our online reading and math programs. For example, I have printed color certificates when students have meet their reading goals in the Lexia reading program. I have also awarded students colored certificates for memorizing basic addition and subtraction facts. In addition, thank you for purchasing a new HP chromebook for my students. They have used our new and awesome chromebook to take reading and math quizes. More students are meeting their individual reading goals.
Thank you from 27 students and their thankful teacher. We love Chevron!”

Funded May 13, 2019Thank you Sonic for gifting my students a state of the art laptop that we will use for years to come. A district technician was able to hook it up to our laser printer so we are up and running. In the past two weeks every student has taken 1-3 Accelerated Reader comprehension quizzes on our shiny, new laptop. So far 15 out of 26 students have reached their reading goals. 5 more students are close to reaching their goal. Even though we are in the last week of the school year, we are continuing to read books and take quizzes on our awesome laptop. Thank you for helping my students increase their confidence as they reach their reading goals. What a terrific way to end this year! Thank you from one grateful teacher and 26 super readers! We love Sonic! Happy Memorial Day!”

Funded Apr 14, 2019Thank you Margaret and Ana for gifting our class hundreds of stickers, 3 seat sacks, 3 book bins, strong magnets, and an awesome electric stapler. My aide and I love the electric stapler because it saves us time and is easy to use. It is amazing the number of papers I staple to pass out independent work during center time. The stapler helps my classroom run more efficiently by reducing the time it takes to pass out papers. Also, it cuts down wasted minutes when we rotate centers. Students in my classroom love collecting scratch and sniff stickers for passing a level of accelerated math. One student in my room has collected 79 stickers for passing 79 first grade math standards. He proudly showed his mom his sticker collection during Open House last week. As you can see from the pictures, I put our strong magnets to good use to display a chart for identifying even and odd numbers. Recently, I inherited 250 new books. The book bins help me level books for students. Organizing books is way easier using our sturdy and colorful book bins. Some students are taking books out to recess to meet their reading goal. By the way, the average student in my class must read 22 books and average 85% to meet their final quarterly reading goal. I am pleased to tell you that the majority of my students made this prestigious goal. Thank you for helping my students and I get the basic supplies needed to help our classroom run smoothly and stay organized. Thank you Margaret and Ana for your kindness and generosity! We will treasure these supplies for years to come!”

Books Needed To Meet Individual Reading Goals
Funded Apr 22, 2019Thank You Margaret for your generous gift of 30 fun and humorous books! Barbie is a big hit with the girls, while my boys enjoyed reading about the history of monster trucks. My students also enjoyed reading the new series by Dr. Seuss. Students are taking these books home to read and enjoy taking a comprehension quiz to see if they can get 5 out of 5 (100%) questions correct. Each student will read the book twice to get ready for the quiz. We are in the last 3 weeks of school and my average student must read 18-20 books to meet their 4th quarter reading goals. Students are devouring our new books and even ask if they can read them during recess (I love that)! One of the books I received in this project was a book that I have been looking for for 6 years. I am so happy to add, "Sarah Morton's Day: A Day In The Life Of A Pilgrim Girl." The week before Thanksgiving our first grade team holds a craft day. Now I can read this informative book to 90 students. Thank you for supporting our reading program. Not only will my current students enjoy reading these interesting and funny books, but my next class will also have the opportunity to read books and take quizzes. Reading is a life skill. Thanks to your kindness, students will improve their fluency and comprehension skills.”

Let's Go With Microsoft To Read To Succeed!
Funded Feb 22, 2019Thank you for your generosity!! Our new Microsoft Go tablet is amazing and is easy to use.
My students are reading books and taking comprehension quizzes more than ever before. We received the tablet at the end of the third quarter. Many of my students had 1-3 more books to read to meet their reading goals. I am proud to tell you that 20 out of 27 students meet both requirements. These students averaged 85% or higher on comprehensions tests and also read enough books to meet their point goals. The average student had to read 12-15 books last quarter.
In the last quarter, my students must read for 30 minutes daily and most kids will have to read 19-22 books. This is a hefty goal but with encouragement I know they will reach their goals. I told them they will not be able to wait until the last minute to reach their bigger goals. We are 1/4 through the last quarter and students are reading books during recess and before school to ensure they will get enough reading points.
Please know that your gift is helping my 1st graders become fluent, confident readers! I love how the Microsoft Go Tablet has a windows operating system which makes it easy to find our programs quickly. I purchased a case to protect our tablet because students will be using it for years to come. Thank you from 27 happy first graders and their grateful teacher.”

Funded Dec 11, 2018Thank you to my anonymous donor from California and to Someone Who Cares for helping us get basic classroom supplies that we use every day. My students love our new, sharp scissors.
We made valentine heart bee bugs, snowmen, snowflakes, and dioramas with our shiny, new scissors. My students also use the scissors to practice cutting and sorting spelling words, long vowel words, digraphs, and triple clusters when practicing phonics skills. In the past four weeks, my class has received 4 new students. Thanks to your generosity, I was able to make
homework folders and student labels with the avery labels and colorful folders you gifted to our class. We love our new sturdy stapler! The stapler has helped us to decorate bulletin boards, staple writing assignments, Scholastic Book orders, make student penguin and president booklets, and to staple student classwork that is used during reading centers. Thank you for your gift of basic classroom supplies. You have made my job easier and more efficient. Thank you from 27 eager first graders and their grateful teacher.”

Funded Oct 10, 2018Thank you Chevron for gifting our classroom with a high quality HP mini desktop computer and a year class subscription to the Science4Us website. My students love the Earth, space, magnets, and force modules. They enjoy playing the silly bulls game that teaches breaking multi-syllable words apart. The interesting videos absolutely grab their attention as they learn about a new science topic. They look forward to playing science games, drawing in a science journal, and learning about the difference between a microscope and a telescope.
Everyone was amazed by our ultra small and compact mini desktop. We had to buy a special cable to hook it into our monitor, but now it works flawlessly. Students use it daily to complete reading assignments on Lexia and Teach Your Monster To Read. They also learn math facts on our school program called Reflex. Some of my students are 80% fluent in their addition and subtraction facts already! When they are 100% fluent, they will start memorizing beginning multiplication facts. Thank you Chevron for your continued support of educators in Kern County. We appreciate your kindness and generosity!”

Funded Sep 21, 2018Thank you to Daveed, Biz, Livia, Sherry K, and Mr. McKnight for funding our pet project.
Our ants are busy making tunnels . Every morning the kids come running in and head straight to our ant farm. Ants are very interesting to watch. The gel ant farm is similar to the one that NASA uses to study insects in space. We are at the end of the first quarter and students are enjoying our new pet books. In fact, 4 students read one of our pet books and met their quarterly reading goals! Students read a book and take an Accelerated Reader comprehension quiz on our computer. My students were amazed to learn all sorts of interesting facts about pumpkins from our online Scholastic News magazine. We even got to watch a video showing the life cycle of a pumpkin. After reading the article, kids answered comprehension questions based on the article. I gave them a bonus question and one student won the big edition of our weekly magazine. The big edition is a super sized poster. My students love taking them home to share with siblings and their families. I strongly believe that teaching kindness and compassion towards pets teaches kids to be caring, responsible, and helpful to others. Thank you for supporting our pet project! In the spring we will watch our caterpillars turn into butterflies and our larvae turn into hot pink ladybugs. Thanks for bringing fun pets into our classroom!”
