  • Read to Succeed: My Students Are Ready for a Challenge!

    Thank you, Maria, Danny, and my Anonymous Donor from Wisconsin for funding chapter books and challenging books for my students to read till the end of the year. My students are trained to read each book two times before taking an Accelerated Reader comprehension quiz on their laptops. However, chapter books are too long to read two times, so they read the book one time and take the AR quiz. So far, my girls love reading the Critter Club and the Princess in Black series of chapter books. My boys prefer the Dragon Masters and The Bad Guys series of books. I just love seeing my students read chapter books because this will give them a head start as they enter second grade. Since my students requested quite a few of these books, they are excited to read them! Some classmates are taking turns or trading their books after taking the AR quiz. Students who earn a 85% or higher comprehension range are entered into two daily drawings. One drawing comes from our principal and the other drawing comes from me. They can earn small prizes for reading with accuracy. At the end of each quarter, students can win larger prizes for meeting their point and accuracy goals. Thank you for gifting us fun and challenging books for our class library. Many students are reading daily because I let them take the books home to read. Your donation has made a huge difference and my students are blossoming into confident and fluent readers!”

  • Basic School Supplies

    Thank you, Phillip, Gary, Peggy, Anonymous Donor, Michelle, and April for funding basic school supplies for our classroom. Students are using the storage baskets to keep books they read. After reading each book 2x they take a comprehension quiz on their laptop. Students are trying to meet their 4th quarter reading goals. My first graders and I were very impressed by our new colored pencil sharpener. I wish I would have known about this awesome product sooner! My students love sticking their pencil in this machine because it grabs the pencil automatically, sharpens the pencil, and releases the pencil when finished. The regular pencil sharpener also is working fantastic! This machine gets a great workout every week.

    Students are using the plastic crayon boxes which are very sturdy! I recently gave them boxes of 24 colorful crayons and since using our new crayon boxes, I am finding less broken crayons or crayons lost on the floor. This has helped my student's crayons last longer and has reduced the number of lost crayons. I will collect these awesome boxes to use next year too!

    The push pins, binder clips, and pencils are used daily. I am using the push pins to display student art and writing on our bulletin boards. I have used the binder clips to organize student work and tests that I grade each day. Thank you for helping my first graders get the basic supplies needed to succeed in school each day.”

My 27 students range from gifted and talented to below grade level. Our school has won many prestigious awards and has high state test scores (in the 900's)! With increasing class size, and no extra funding, I am trying to offer this class the same quality reading program as I have offered past classes. Sincerely, your help would be greatly appreciated!
