Look at Me!
Funded Jan 25, 2012Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our project. We had a bit of a setback when the two cameras we received were stolen from a locked filing cabinet drawer in our classroom.
Fortunately, I received word that LAUSD would be reimbursing me for the cameras. I then purchased a new digital camera right before the end of the school year, which allowed me to capture the images you see on the "Project Photos" page. The kids were so excited to share our field trips to Topanga Beach and the Glendale Community College Planetarium and Physics Lab with their families via the photos we took after I uploaded them to a photo sharing site.
I also was able to purchase a new compact video camera, which I am looking forward to using with next year's class. I can't wait to use the cameras throughout the entire school year to capture the learning and fun that we have in school, then share them with my students' families. This will really help to involve everyone in our classroom activities and keep everyone excited and enthused about learning.
I truly appreciate your being a part of "The Village" and caring enough to share with my kids. ”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Baba

Funded Jan 31, 2012Thank you so much for your contribution to our project. My students have been enjoying the computer provided by you and Donors Choose. The love using the reading software (also provided by donors like you), and can't wait for their turn on the new computer. My students also use the computer for research and for homework. We will also be using this computer to upload, share, and print photographs, as it has memory card slots - which my other computers lack. As a teacher, having the resources I need to provide students with the opportunity to individualize their educational programs by allowing them to access technology is invaluable. ”

Funded Feb 1, 2012Every time I look out into my classroom and see those beautiful, bright blue study partitions, I am reminded of your generosity. Thank you so much for helping to provide for the basic needs of my students. When I first opened the boxes and showed them to my students, they were so excited. They couldn't wait to use them! They take such pride in them, making sure to erase any accidental stray marks on them. And I am so happy to know that each student has a little bit of personal space, which allows them to focus on the task at hand.”

Funded Dec 20, 2011Thank you for donating to our project. We LOVE our new LCD projector. It is helping to keep my students connected to the world around them. You have truly helped to enrich the lives of my students by allowing me to continue bringing learning to life. It shows things from around the world and from all points in history into our class when used in conjunction with our laptop. It also helps us to conserve paper, as I can just project a worksheet or song lyrics, for example, rather than having to run it off for all students.
The LCD Projector is used daily in my classroom for so many things. We use it to share student work, view video clips and educational websites, learn cursive writing, and discuss problem solving strategies to name a few! I was dreading the day when it would "breathe its last breath", so to speak - but now I don't have to worry!
Needless to say, the students and I truly appreciate your generosity. ”

Funded Dec 8, 2011Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. The reading software that you donated has really helped my students to improve their reading skills. We use them regularly to practice important skills like identifying main ideas, making inferences, defining vocabulary in context, and general comprehension of both fiction and non-fiction text. My students love the fun games and immediate reinforcement! I have noticed a marked improvement in their abilities, as well as their enthusiasm for reading.
Like many others, our school is currently facing a budget shortfall. Without your help, my students would never have had access to such wonderful resources. ”

Funded Dec 2, 2011Thank you for helping to keep my students connected to the world around them. You have truly helped to enrich the lives of my students by allowing me to continue bringing learning to life.
We use the laptop daily in our classroom: we us it to watch educational DVDs and video clips, help answer questions about animal and plant adaptations, look up new vocabulary, view photographs and videos of geographic habitats, play math games, and do interactive lessons, just to name a few of the things we do! I was dreading the day when my old laptop would "breathe its last breath", so to speak - but now I don't have to worry! Students have even been able to produce videos for their projects, which they could then share with our class. This would not have been an option with our old laptop.
Needless to say, the students and I truly appreciate your generosity. In this time of budget cuts, the help of donors like you is so critical. Thank you.”
