• Learning and Working From Home

  Thank you for your generous donations to my class project. My students have enjoyed the variety of new materials I was able to purchase with these funds. I have been able to add several digital options to the paper based materials that we typically have used to study and practice phonics and math which have been super helpful to those who do not have access to a printer. We have also been enjoying digital games to reinforce the skills we are learning in all subject areas. These funds have helped make these less than ideal times a little easier and more enjoyable for all of us. Even remotely, learning can be fun!

• A Virtual Shopping Spree

  Thank you very much for your generous donation. This has been a very different year for all of us. Word study has always been a favorite in my class and with learning from home our new reality, it has been a challenge to duplicate what we would do in school at home. Many of the teacher authors on Teachers Pay Teachers have revamped their resources to be used virtually and so what we would normally do with pencil and paper we have been able to do at home on our computers. Some students continue to prefer to print out assignments and write but many have enjoyed learning how to manipulate the Google slides and documents to practice important phonics skills on their computers.

  Thankfully with this gift card I have been able to purchase the resources for our class to continue to learn our sight words and other fundamental phonics skills in addition to valuable math and reading skills while at the same time having some fun learning from home.

• Reading Bins Need A Refresh

  Reading workshop has been a different world since we have our new reading bins! Finally we can keep track of our books and reading supplies. Students are able to have their own portable libraries which they have been learning to share and trade with their reading partners. No longer do we have to waste time looking for books in our desks, shared table baskets, or in the classroom library. In addition, our books are in better condition now that they aren't in desks! In fact, our classroom looks bright and cheery from the beautiful colors of the bins! Students have a new sense of pride taking care of their things.

• Book Bin Bonanza

  It is amazing what our new book bins have done for our classroom! You should have seen everyone's faces when the boxes arrived. The class couldn't wait for me to open each box, stacked up in piles in the room, everyone "oohing" and "aahhing" over each new size and color basket. As a class we sorted through our books, working together to decide how to organize and label the books in the new bins. I couldn't help but smile as I heard exclamations of "I didn't know we had this book," "I've been looking for this book," and "Oh, I remember this book from last year". Even weeks later, the students get excited for their turn to book shop and discover more hidden book gems. We can't thank you enough for brightening our classroom library with our new book bins and allowing us to find the resources we need to achieve our reading goals.”

• Guided Reading

  My students were so excited when I unwrapped our new books. Many of the books that were in our classroom from the previous class and teacher were not left to us in the best condition. The students would come to me with the pages of their books falling out and such disappointment on their faces. Their eyes lit up when they saw a big stack of clean, shiny new books. They couldn't wait for their turn to have guided reading so that they could get their hands on these new books!

  We have been working hard on increasing our reading stamina, our ability to decode new and tricky words, and improve our reading comprehension. We have been using these books to help us reach our reading goals. As the students have moved up in reading levels, they have shared with each other their excitement and the students approaching those levels can't wait for their chance to use the books as well. Thank you again for your donation. These new books have truly made an impact in our classroom.”
