  • Our Crazy List of Things We Really Need!

    Funded Feb 14, 2025

Thank you so much for providing the speaker and the clipboards that we needed in the library! Everything arrived and we have been using them a LOT! The kids were amazed when I told them how we got these things and how kindhearted, generous people went above and beyond and helped us out! Some were people I knew and some were complete strangers who just happen to take the time out of their busy lives to reach out and help others! They just couldn't believe people would do that!!!!! Thank you for setting that fine example of compassion and caring for my students! Some of them have been inspired by your generosity and want to go on to help others! We had a HUGE discussion about how EVERYONE can take the time to help lift others!

As for the materials, they are TOP NOTCH! The clipboards are colorful, sturdy, and we use them all the time! It makes keeping their materials much easier and organized in class. The speaker is also amazing and they love the extra "bass" that is now in the music we play and the videos we watch that go with the books we are reading! It just gives us a little extra boost! Again, thank you for helping us and for being so kind and thoughtful! May you truly be blessed for your kindness!”

  • Hooray! Pick A Prize!

    Funded Aug 15, 2024

Thank you so very much for stepping in and helping me get this project funded! I always try to find incentives that will motivate and excite my students school-wide as they participate in the Accelerated Reading program and let me just assure you that they are EXCITED for sure!!!! I let them help me open up all the packages and fill our prize box to the brim! They immediately wanted to start reading their books so they could earn points and win prizes!!!! We have had a significant jump in the participation of the students in AR!!!! The students' excitement has been off the charts! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I could have never funded this project all by myself and I am so thankful for kind, and generous people like yourself who step outside of their own lives and look for ways to help others!

My students have been very touched knowing that there are caring people like yourself who try to do their part to improve the lives of others! I have explained how we got all of the "super cool" prizes and they are so amazed by your kindness! Thank you for the prizes, but more importantly, thank you for your example of kindness! I hope you are truly blessed for being so compassionate! Thank you again!”

  • Reading Activities to Activate Their Minds!

    Funded Feb 14, 2024

Thank you so very much for supporting and funding this class project!!!!! It has been wonderful to be able to purchase some much-needed fun activities to use in the library classes that I teach. The students have responded with a LOT of enthusiasm as these activities have been very "hands-on" and creative! I purchased a couple of STEM activities that allowed them to manipulate different items to build and create structures that could successful solve different problems in scenarios. I wish you could have been in the library and heard them discussing how to use the materials and brainstorming ideas for solving problems they encountered! They learned so much by actually working it through the problem-solving steps themselves! I was so inspired by their creativity! I also purchased some novel units that let us delve into some novels together and then they had different art-based activities to complete which they LOVED! It was fun watching them choose different ways to present what they had gained from the novels through very creative and crafty representations! I have been so excited to see what my students can and will do when given the freedom to really explore and create! Thank you again for all that you've given us by simply funding this project! You are so kind to reach outside of yourself and help people you don't even know! Have an awesome day!”

  • Reading Together Means Growing Together

    Funded Jan 13, 2024

Thank you so much for purchasing this class set of the novel, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" that I was able to share and read with my class in the library. I love the whole plot of this book as we traveled with the character, Edward Tulane, who went from being a spoiled, egotistic rabbit to one that experiences loss, grief, fear, embarrassment, and love. My students got to see how your life experiences can change you for the better even though they may be hard to endure at times. We talked about being humble and compassionate towards others and appreciating what you have in life while you still have it. There were some students that were touched very deeply by this sweet novel and a few of us (me included) had tears in our eyes at different moving points in the journey through this story! I really feel like we bonded as we shared our own experiences that mirrored some of the same emotions that Edward was experiencing throughout his journey and many of the students really learned some life lessons such as being humble, grateful, kind, resilient, persistent, and compassionate! It was a beautiful journey that we all got to go on with Edward and by supporting this project, you were responsible for buying us all a ticket! Thank you again and again for being kind and helping us out! May you be blessed for your thoughtfulness!”

  • Pencils, Pencils, Pencils!

    Funded Aug 20, 2023

Thank you so much for taking your time and effort (and funds) and helping make this project a success for my students! They were so excited to see all of the new pencils AND the really cool pencil dispenser! The LOVE using the dispenser to get new pencils and it has definitely become a hit in my library classroom!!!!! I am excited that NO CHILD in my classroom ever has to worry about having a good-writing pencil since the Ticonderoga ones are THE BEST! They write so well, erase easily, and the kids love using them. They refer to these pencils as THE BEST IN THE LAND! I love it! I think having high quality pencils has motivated them to write even more and writing activities have become a favorite! YAY!!!!!!

It takes a special effort from a special person to help buy these educational materials for the kiddos and we are so blessed to have had you pick our project as one that you wanted to fund! I hope you know what an impact you've made on me AND my students. Many of them were so touched that "someone that doesn't even know us, helped us!" That's what many of them told me when I told them how we got the pencils and the dispenser and it really showed them that there are people who are nice and caring in the world! What a great example you set for my kiddos about reaching out and helping others! Thank you again!”

  • Help Bring a Little Color to Our Classroom!

    Funded Jan 4, 2023

Thank you so very very very much for all of the bright, colorful, and cheerful paper that you provided to my students! WOW, we have had fun creating so many projects and publishing our writings from class onto gorgeous paper that just made us feel like our work was that much more special! The publishing stage quickly became our favorite part! We went from having just plain old white paper to have an AWESOME selection of bright colors to choose from! Thank you, thank you thank you!!!! The kids have been so excited to choose their colors and we even made the cutest little origami creations! I know to most people, paper would sound like something boring to ask for, but not in our classroom! It makes all the difference! Thank you for being so giving and generous to reach out and help our classroom! You are so kind!!!!”

  • Sitting Tall and Sharing With All

    Funded Sep 6, 2022

Thank you so very much for the amazing office chair that you purchased for my classes to use as their official "presentation" chair. Oh, I wish you could see how important they feel when they get chosen to sit in the big chair and talk to the rest of the class about their books they have been reading or information they found during their research projects! It is so awesome to see their confidence shine as they take their seat of importance and share their information and their thoughts with classmates/peers. It has been the confidence booster that I had hoped it would be!

When they first saw the office chair, they were so excited about getting the chance to present to their peers and they spoke with so much more confidence as they sat there! The transformation has been so awe-inspiring! I love it!

I hope you realize how much your donation has meant to not only me, but to all of the students who have used the chair! They love the air of authority it gives them......lol. Thank you for taking the time and resources to reach out into the community and support this project through DonorsChoose! When others support teachers, it really makes our job a little more exciting and gives us that boost to renew our commitment to educating our students!”

  • Storyworks Puts Reading in Their Hands and Their Homes!

    Funded Jan 4, 2022

Thank you so much for providing these wonderful Storyworks magazine subscriptions for the 3rd,4th and 5th graders at my school. Many of our children have limited reading resources in their homes so these magazines were things we could read in class and then the students could take them home and share with their families!

The magazines have students a very diverse selection of different genres including fiction, nonfiction, poetry and plays! The reading selections are high interest and very fun for the students to read. Many of the students shared them with their families and have re-read the selections over and over!

It is a great feeling to see my students so excited about reading a literary magazine and I sincerely appreciate your generosity in supporting this project for our students Thank you so much for caring and helping!!!”

  • Tech Tools To Make Learning Easier

    Funded Dec 29, 2021

Thank you so much for purchasing the wireless "mice" for our classroom! The students who had trouble using the mouse pad on the Chromebooks have been able to navigate MUCH better with these! They came with batteries and the little USB plug in so they are quick and easy to set up and plug in for use during class! Sometimes students will really struggle to use the built-in mouse pad on the Chromebook but are much more "in-control" with a mouse that is separate so through your donation, we have taken a piece of technology and made it accessible and useful for ALL students!

You also donated a really nice set of speakers to our library and the students LOVE it when I am showing a video that goes along with a book we are reading or a library skill we are covering and they all can hear so much better with this new speaker! What a wonderful addition it has been to our library class! Sometimes I am able to find songs that go with some of the books and the music is so much more vibrant with these speakers than the hard-to-hear speakers on my computer! When they can hear what I'm sharing with them, they are a LOT more engaged and participate so much better! Thank you for doing that for us!

I wanted to let you know I've explained to my classes how we acquired these materials and they all have just been so touched to know that people they don't even know took the time to donate to our library so they could have some really needed supplies! As one student put it, "Wow, Mrs. Appleton, these people don't even know us and are willing to help us out. They are some really great people!" Yes, you are really great and I just wanted you to know that we all appreciate your help! Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

I am the school librarian at the BEST rural school in Virginia! After teaching 5th grade for 21 years, I made the jump to being a librarian so that I could help all of the students in my school learn to LOVE reading!!!! I currently have about 270 students in grades PreK-5 that I see every week and in that time together, we explore a variety of books: fiction, nonfiction, drama, poetry, etc. I love when they enter the library asking me, "What book are we going to read today, Mrs. Appleton?" or when they tell me that they didn't like books until they discovered the library! YAY! I thoroughly enjoy my job because I love my students and I absolutely LOVE seeing them discover and fall in love with literature! What a magical moment it is to see them transform into students who CRAVE books and love discussing books with me as well as their peers!
