• Our Big Books!

  Thank you for contributing to our classroom. We strive to create a culturally sustaining classroom which views students from an asset based view. We also strive to help students dig deeper, tapping into their funds of knowledge. You contribution has allowed us to create lessons which are culturally sustaining.

  My entire class loved taking turns sitting in the little library looking at the books. Older students often visted the class during indoor recess and selected books to read.

  The new books we have added have expanded their horizons. We have used the books to discuss character and setting, main idea and supporting details, sequence, and much more.

  The books changed the dynamic of reading in the classroom. Students loved our reading time, where they were able to select a flexible seating option and move to a different area of the room, spread out and get comfortable. They would get lost in a book during this time. It was a joy to watch.

• Our Growing Library

  Thank you so much for all of your help this year. We used all of the books in daily read alouds. The kids loved talking about the books we read.

  We used the books to discuss several topics which align with our curriculum. The first would be fiction or non-fiction. We discuss this daily in my class thanks to all of the books we had access to.

  We also talk about character, setting, problem, solution, sequence. The kids absolutely love talking about the character and setting of a story.
