Expand Your Mind, Change Your World With Magazines!
Funded Jan 13, 2017I am so excited to see that this project has been funded. I can't wait to go to school tomorrow morning and let the kiddos know they can now 'expand their minds' with our magazine subscription. The support of the DonorsChoose community is overwhelming. Thank you again for allowing me to provide these materials for my students.”

Book Nooks ~ Book Clubs for 2nd Graders!
Funded Feb 18, 2016Thank you so much for your help in funding our project "Book Nook". The students were so excited when I showed them the box containing our book club books! They were so eager and could hardly wait to start new book clubs.
We have been using the books in small groups during our literacy block. The book clubs meet at least three times per week to read a chapter and discuss what is happening. After reading a chapter, they come together to discuss what they have read, ask and answer questions and listened intently to others in their group. They don't even realize they are learning! They are so engaged and having so much fun!
Having book clubs is helping them focus on asking and answering deep questions, understanding the key details in text, listening to others points of view and citing text evidence. This is instilling higher order thinking skills and rigor. It is empowering them to be lifelong learners who love to read.
I can truly say what an amazing addition the chapter books have been to our classroom. To see my students get so excited to read the next chapter and to chat with others about what they have read and how they connect with the books, is so wonderful!
I am so incredibly thankful to you for donating to our classroom. It has made a great impact on my students, and makes them excited to learn and share. Thank you for continuing to support my classroom and my students.”

Listening For Learning - Individual Listening Centers
Funded Aug 26, 2014My students were so excited to receive the individual listening centers. They were so eager to start listening, reading and retelling the stories. When I told them the listening centers came from, generous people donating money, they could hardly believe it! The students patiently waited for the package to arrive. When the package arrived it was like Christmas morning! The students cheered and excitedly told everyone in the hallways and on the playground how lucky they are to get the listening centers.
We have been using the listening centers during our literacy block. During this time, at least 6 students are asked to complete independent tasks revolving around literacy. The students are so excited when it is their turn to use the listening centers. The students often leave suggestions of new books with CD companions that they have found. The student's fluency and comprehension skills have improved since use of listening centers.
By helping to fund this project you have helped my student's see that their fluency and comprehension has increased. They are motivated to read, listen and retell the stories. They are engaged in their learning and they are excited about working independently. We are so grateful for your generous donation.”
