Science Rocks!
Funded Mar 10, 2016Thank you all again for your donation! The children were super excited when the caterpillars arrived! It was great for the children to see the life cycle of a butterfly! It was so cool to see the amazement in their eyes as they watched the caterpillars eat, grow and shed their skin, turn into chrysalis, and then hatch out as a butterfly! The children observed the caterpillars every day, creating a life cycle book to show what they have learned. When the caterpillars made their chrysalis, the children counted how many days it took for the butterflies to come out (10). Without you, the children would have never been able to have this experience. Thank you!!”

Funded Mar 10, 2016Thank you so much for your donation! The children were beyond excited when they learned we got new books for our listening center! Every day during reading workstations, they get to listen to a new book. We have already read "Green Eggs and Ham," "A Bad Case of Stripes," and "Giraffes Can't Dance." After each small group has listened to the book, we have a class discussion about what happened, who the characters were, where the story took place, and what their favorite part of the book was. Then they write the title and draw a picture in their handwriting journals. Their interest in books and reading has grown so much because of your donation! Thank you again!!!! :-)”

Funded Mar 9, 2016Thank you so much for your donation! My kids were super excited when the boxes started showing up! They have so much fun with all of the sight word games! Reading workstations are so much more fun now that we have a variety of games to play! They cannot wait to learn new sight words each week and then use the games and puzzles to memorize each word. Each game is different and helps my students who learn in different ways memorize their sight words. Thank you so much for the opportunity to give my students more options during their reading workstations!”

Help Our Wiggles!
Funded Mar 10, 2016Thank you so much for your donations! We now have a classroom set of yoga balls and stability chairs! I cannot begin to tell you how much calmer my children are! You would think that being only 5 and 6 years old that they would have been crazy bouncing all over the place with the yoga balls... Which some of them were the first day. Now that we have had the yoga balls and chairs for a little while, they have gotten used to having them. They are very respectful with the yoga balls. They each have "their" yoga ball that they sit on every day. When they enter the classroom, they put their belongings away and get their yoga balls out, then sit down and start their morning work right away! They can't wait to come to school and sit on their yoga balls while doing work.
Thank you again so much!”

Funded Mar 11, 2016Thank you so much for your donation! The children were very excited when all of our wonderful items arrived! We were running low on glue sticks, and we do quite a few crafting projects! They were very excited that we would still be able to do those projects. We also did not have a classroom set of scissors, and while sharing is always a good thing to promote, it is nice that every one gets done with cutting activities in a timely manner now.
The children were also very excited to get the new caddy's and book boxes! Our classroom is much more organized now! They have sturdier book boxes, and when they "shop" for books at the beginning of the week, I just have to tell them what color book bin to get books out of. Very easy and efficient!
Thank you again so much for your donations! Our classroom has benefited so much from Donors Choose! I don't know where we would be without it! THANK YOU!!! :-)”

Funded Feb 15, 2016Thank you again for donating to this project! The children absolutely love the new books and our listening center! It is super easy and convenient. The CD player came with a remote control, so I can hit the play and stop button from wherever I am in the classroom!
The children loved the new books! They ask me every day to read "The Day the Crayons Quit" and "The Day the Crayons Came Home". We talked about treating our crayons nicer, being gentler with them, and how to use the different colors for different things we might be coloring after reading both of those books. We wouldn't want to get a letter from our crayons! ; -) They also loved "Secret Pizza Party." I read it to them right before we had our own secret pizza party for the 100th day of school! Thank you again so much for donating to this project, you have enhanced reading in our classroom so much!”

Wiggles & Fidgets for Kindergarten!
Funded Jan 27, 2016I do not know where to begin. Thank you so much for donating to this project! My classroom has been a much calmer place since the arrival of the stability balls and fidget toys! Since there are not enough stability balls for everyone in the class we have a boys day and then a girls day. Every morning they know exactly whose day it is to have the balls. They are beyond excited to get to sit on the stability balls!
We also use the fidget toys every morning. During our morning meeting we go over our sight words and then read a story. Once they get their sight word correct, every child gets a fidget to play with while I read a story. We also use them when we are writing to help our brains concentrate.
Thank you again so much for these items! The children love them!!!”

Guided Reading Centers for Kinders
Funded Jan 20, 2016Thank you again so much for donating to this project! My students were beyond excited when the items arrived. We have been limited on our pencils, crayons, and dry erase markers. They could not believe that many crayons could come in one box! We played different counting games, and color recognition games with just the crayons! They had a blast! Adding pictures to their work is much more fun for them because they have all these different colors now. I have one student who is a budding artist, and everyday he tells me how much he enjoys creating pictures with his new crayons.
We use our new handwriting journals every day. The children come up with sentences for our sight words, sounding out each word as we say it. I write it on the board with one of our new dry erase markers, and they copy it down during reading workstations into their journals. Then they have to draw a picture to match the sentence. They couldn't believe that there were journals out there that had a space to draw a picture!
We also use the sight word readers everyday. The children have picked up reading very quickly and they love having so many different books to choose from! They also like that they can read the same book and not have to share a book with a partner.
Thank you again so much for donating to my classroom. My students and I appreciate it more than you know! We thank you and wish you nothing but happiness!”

Making Fun & Engaging Math Centers!
Funded Jan 17, 2016I want to thank you, once again, so much for donating to this project. Our math workstations have been a huge hit since the items arrived at our school! Math workstations are new to the school this year, so supplies, and games were limited. Now I have several different things to rotate out each week.
On any given day during math workstations, the children might be creating numbers, shapes, patterns, or designs with the geoboards and rubber bands.
The children also love the Hot Dots pens and cards! It amazes them that the pen knows the correct answer! The Hot Dot pens and number recognition have helped those who were still struggling with a few numbers. The addition cards will be handy in the next few weeks as we start learning about addition!
The children also love sorting! They have learned all out the different 3D shapes, colors, and creating patterns as they sort the different items.
Again thank you so much! You have made our math workstations a more engaging and fun activity! THANK YOU!”
