STEM fosters creativity and leads to new ideas. It provides students the opportunity to create and build something they thought of. STEM-based learning is more than science and mathematics. It focuses on hands-on learning with real-world practices.
During STEM Lab, students will be learning in a safe environment that allows them to fail and try again. The best part of STEM education is that it stresses the value of failure as a learning experience which makes students embrace the fact that they will not always be successful and that is ok. This allows students to build confidence and resilience, which will provide a life lesson that you keep going even when it gets rough.
The STEM Lab is going to be used during Math Centers. Students will be able to rotate each day to a new STEM center. All my students will have a chance to be hands-on during the STEM Lab.
The three goals for students for the STEM Lab is first for them to understand the ways that science, maths, the arts, and technology work together. The second goal is for students to feel comfortable doing hands-on learning. The third goal is for students to work collaboratively with others as well as understanding their emotions as well as others emotions.
My students will use the resources in the STEM Lab such as sensory dough, construction planks for building, and the the STEM books to read about STEM as part of the STEM Lab. This will be all be organized in the cubby storage unit which will be our STEM Lab. This cubby storage will provide a designates space, organization and independence for students to spread out their work and make a purposeful mess.
