I am currently a 5th grade teacher in my 5th year. I teach at a high poverty school, Pettit Park, in Kokomo Indiana. My classroom is a place where I encourage hands-on learning, movement, and creativity. I teach all subject areas, but my passion is reading. My students participate in guided reading groups and learn through games and activities,
I have recently implemented flexible seating and my students have benefited greatly from this. They complete their work wherever they feel most comfortable. I also focus heavily on classroom community. Each day my students participate in a "morning meeting." We take the time to do team building activities, compliment one another, and focus on good classroom management.
Another strong focus of mine has been to implement empathy in all my lessons through diversity and exposure to different cultures, backgrounds, and to create a welcoming atmosphere to all my kids!
