Reward students for H.O.W.L.Ling Helping Others with Leadership and Love
Funded Dec 3, 2024Thank you so much for your generous donations to our Wolf Mart. The students were so excited to unpack the supplies, inventory and get ready for our next shopping day. For the month of February we are encouraging teachers to "Feel the Love" and give students points for displaying kind behavior and positive academic strides. The students are working hard to earn PBIS points so they can cash in their points for all the fun new prizes. Many of the students have expressed that they are especially excited for the new balls and water bottles as the weather warms up.
Thank you for making this opportunity possible for our students.”

Funded Sep 14, 2023Thank you so much to donating to our project. When the boxes arrived the students could not wait to play with the puzzle cubes and earn the candy. At the beginning of our puzzle project, we had "game day." The students had a blast learning to solve the puzzle cubes. Students were collaborating to learn techniques for solving cubes. In our competition, we divided into to veterans and new puzzle solvers. It was great to see students help and encourage others. When the students designed their puzzle cubes in class, they had a better understanding of how the pieces fit and function. Thank you for helping make this possible.”

Positive Rewards are a "H.O.W.L.L.ing" Success
Funded Aug 25, 2023The students at my school are so excited about the rewards in our school store. Students are working hard to earn points daily. When the store is open for purchases, the students are excited about all the different choices. Thanks to the donations from our Donors Choose project, we can say there is something for everyone in the store.
Our store is so successful due to donations that we have a group of teachers to bag the rewards and deliver them bi-weekly. This is our own version of "Amazon" and the students get excited to open their brown bags to find their treasures. Our middle school students are truly howling over their rewards.”

Funded Nov 29, 2022The students were so excited when the Keva Plank boxes arrived. We had one week left in the quarter and we used the time to design and build with the planks. The students challenged each other to make the best bridges on day one. We made lots of different designs and even built bridges that defied gravity.
The second day the students wanted to explore buildings. Some made houses and towers while others tried their hand at unusual designs. The collaboration, team work and communication skills being used while building were amazing. The students were sad when class ended but neatly put the blocks back so the next class could use them.
I am so thankful for these planks. I plan to create some more detailed lessons but I truly believe letting the kids build really taught them about the design process and how iterative it can be. Thank you again.”

Funded Aug 10, 2022My 6th grade students were so excited when we received Breakout Edu. They love doing the daily challenges as a warm-up or some of the longer challenges as early finishers. I plan to use these as I begin a new semester. We will also begin using them in our afterschool club starting in February.
Many of my students have completed the online challenges but have never completed the in-class breakout rooms. Though time did not allow us to use them 1st semester, they are excited to explore these tools in the new semester. I even had a student create a breakout room of their own for us to use.
As the new semester begins, we will continue to use the Breakout Edu kits. Thank you to everyone who helped make this excitement a possibility.”

Funded Aug 4, 2022Thank you so much for helping us purchase our new First Lego League Robot. Our students were excited to begin building the robot and coding the challenges. This years theme is SuperPowered! The students have to solve problems that involve alternative energy sources. For this reason our team named our robot, Hydra, for water powered energy.
Without this robot, the students would not be able to compete in this year's FLL competition. The robot will be the first to compete for our new school. You have been part of making this happen for us.
Students have learned a lot about programming and teamwork with this robot. The brick is much easier to use compared to the old Lego robots. The students have noticed that slight changes affect the robot and are working together to make sure programs are consistent. We cant wait until January to test our robot in competition.
Thank you again for this opportunity.”

Help Students Soar with Positive Rewards
Funded Nov 30, 2021Thank you for your support of "Help Students Soar with Positive Rewards." The students were so excited to see the boxes come in with all the new fidgets and snacks. Our Soar Store was booming with students excited to trade in their SOAR cards for these new treasurers. After sharing with students the exciting items we purchased through Donors Choose, I noticed the number of students getting more excited about the SOAR cards and trying to focus on positive behaviors.
Every time a box came in the students wanted to open the materials and see what would be available. They started making lists of their favorite things and considering what they would like to purchase. Our SOAR store went from a location of random items to a store where the students could turn in their hard earned cards. The students who work hard every day expressed how much they appreciated having the opportunity to pick up items that interested them. The stickers and fidgets were some of the biggest hits. The smiles on students faces showed they were excited to receives these prizes for their hard work. As I look around the school, I see more of the stickers on water bottles and I know that these items made students extremely happy.
Thanks to donations from Donors Choose, our SOAR store has become an important location at our school. Students are now making requests and encouraging others to donate items so that our store can continue to grow. Students are learning the importance of having a goal, saving for that goal and then the rewards from those savings. Thank you again to all the donors who made this possible.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 6 other donors.Sheep Brains? Cool, let’s learn more about our brains.
Funded Aug 15, 2019With the rising cost of materials in Gateway to Technology, I did not plan on teaching my medical detectives unit this year. Thanks to your donation I have the resources I need to teach the course. My 8th grade students are excited about learning about the parts of the brain and then seeing them first hand.
When the box arrived from Carolina Biological, the students kept asking "Are those the brains?". When I opened the box to reveal the bucket of sheep brains they were even more excited. As we move through the medical detectives unit, the sheep brains were the most anticipated project. Thanks to your donations this is possible.
On sheep brain dissection day the students came in excited. They spent 3 days learning about the parts and functions of the brain. On this day, they actually got to see these parts up close. This is what STEM coming to life is like!”

3D Printing for a World Beyond 2D!
Funded May 6, 2019Thank you so much for donation to purchase our 3D Printer. The students are excited to see the new printer in the classroom and can't wait to start building their creations. We just started our 3D modeling unit and the students will have an opportunity to design a puzzle that can be printed using our new printer.
The first day that the students saw the giant box in my room they wanted to know what was inside. When I unpacked the printer their eyes lit up at the shinny new machine. When the first prints finished quickly and quietly they were even more excited at the possibilities for this new machine.
As we move through the year students will be allowed to design and print objects for various projects. Students can also design on their own time and earn class points towards printing in 3D. The possibilities with our new printer are growing every day. Thank you again for your support of the Gateway to Technology program.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Google.org and 14 other donors.Students Design it, Now Let's 3D Print it!
Funded May 23, 2018We are extremely excited to receive the new 3D printer. The students have not had access to a working printer for a few years. We cannot wait to design and print our own ideas. Currently my robotics team are working on designing a robotic dog to print with the 3D printer. Then my 7th graders will design puzzles and print the parts using the printer. The options and ideas are endless as we learn all the new features of this device.
The students were so excited to see the giant box! The joy and excitement continued as the 3D printer was removed and displayed. The students were memorized by the first print of our sample items. They began discussing all the things we could print and design. The excitement continues to grow and they cant wait to build their ideas.
Now that we have a working 3D printer, our design and modeling unit can expand. Students will no longer just sketch an idea but they can 3D model and print their design. Students will have an opportunity to see their prototypes come to life.”
