  • Protect Our Ears!

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Just an update to tell you that the students are loving the noise cancelling headphones you helped to purchase for my music classroom. They have an adjustable fit, so our littlest (and not so littlest) students can equally enjoy protecting their ears when necessary. All students have the option to use them when they feel the volume in the room is too overwhelming. Most importantly, the headphones allow all students to participate in all parts of the music lesson. Thank you again for your generosity and for supporting safe and enjoyable music making!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. O

  • The Music Room Needs A Rug!

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

I wanted to update you on our new rug that you helped purchase for the music room. We absolutely love it!

Our rug is so comfy and soft. The students were so excited to see it when it arrived in the Music Room. Several other classes have a similar rug so some students enjoyed seeing that. The rug provides ample space for seating as well as movement activities and instrument playing. The rug's bold colors also adds some much needed warmth and energy to the space.

Thank you again for your donations! In these times of limited school budgets, you were able to bring something very special and needed to the Music Room.”

  • SMART Board: Music to Our Ears!

    Funded Oct 19, 2021

It look 5 long months but on Thursday, April 7th the SMARTBoard for the music room finally arrived and was installed!

Our new piece of technology has made planning and viewing digital content so much easier. Lessons, slides, websites and video clips can all easily be stored in the board for easy access. The touchscreen allows students to interact directly with music games and apps. I don't have to connect my laptop to the projector and have wires all over the floor. I also don't have to worry about students creating shadow puppets in front of the projector. The students are so overjoyed to see the SMARTBoard finally installed. The sharp and vivid screen is far better than my projector and everyone can see what's on the board, from no matter where they are sitting.

When I created this project last June, I did not have high hopes that it would be fully funded in time. But thanks to your extremely generous donations, the music room now has a SMARTboard that will be used for years to come!”

    Mr. O

  • More Metallophones Please!!

    Funded Nov 18, 2019

I wanted to give you an update since we received our instruments that were graciously given to us because of your donations.

Having 2 additional metallophones to our classroom collection has only enriched our sound when the students are performing on all the instruments. It also allows for more opportunities for playing. More instruments means less sharing, and since the metallophones are the most popular of the Orff instruments in my classroom, it also means there are fewer disappointed faces.

In the next few months, we look forward to using these instruments to create arrangements to songs we are currently working on and to use them in storytelling. Thank you for supporting our music program!”

    With gratitude,

  • A Home For Our Growing Orff Instrument Collection!

    Funded Oct 31, 2019

Just wanted to give you a little update on how we have been using our storage cabinet since it arrived in November.

Our primary use for our storage closet is to safely store our xylophones, metallophones, and other Orff instruments when they are not in use. The storage cabinet is very accessible and allows for students to assist in passing out/putting away instruments, which has been a huge help for me. Students immediately noticed the new closet and were happy to see the new storage for our instruments.

Since we have additional storage space, our next goal is to create future projects that would allow us to acquire more instruments, which can then be stored in the cabinet. Because of your generosity, we are off to a great start! Thank you again for your support and for supporting the arts!”

  • Our First Bass Metallophone!

    Funded Feb 13, 2019

I just wanted to update you on how we have been using our bass metallophone since we received it at the end of February. Your generous donations have allowed this instrument to be such a wonderful addition to my classroom!

Our 3rd and 5th graders have been primarily using it on a weekly basis. When the bass metallophone first arrived, the students were so excited to see it but was more impressive were their reactions when they got to hear what it sounded like when it was played. It has really enhanced our Orff compositions!

We are currently working on Pete Seeger's Storysong "Abiyoyo", which is based on a South African Lullaby and Folk Story. Our goal is to incorporate all of our Orff instruments to tell the story through movement and music. The students are all working on the many parts, and eagerly want to show me when they've finally figured out their part!

Again I want to thank you for your donations, and for supporting the arts. The students and I are so tremendously thankful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. O

This year, I am looking to add to my Orff instrument collection. My collection currently includes xylophones (soprano, alto, bass) metallophones (alto, soprano) and glockenspiels (soprano). My 3rd and 5th graders absolutely love playing on these instruments! We are lacking a bass metallophone, which is the costliest of all the metallophones. Each instrument produces a wonderfully distinct timbre, so adding a bass metallophone to our music classroom collection will only enrich our classroom and school performances. We use the Orff instruments to create arrangements to songs we have learned in class. Using Orff Instruments (tone bar instruments) is part of an entire learning approach. The instruments all possess unique timbres, which make all parts clear and well defined. Their use helps children become sensitive listeners and considerate participants as they play together in an ensemble. Used as a large group, the teacher can create an orchestra. Used as a small group, it can become accompaniment for storytelling and movement. These instruments allow a unity with music, movement, dance, and speech.
