  • Thermal Vision To See What Eyes Can't

    Funded Apr 4, 2024

In a bustling elementary school classroom, a group of curious young minds embarked on an exciting journey to unravel the mysteries of heat and light. Armed with a state-of-the-art thermal camera, these budding scientists were about to delve into the invisible realms that shape their everyday experiences.

The classroom buzzed with anticipation as the teacher introduced the thermal camera, a device capable of detecting and visualizing heat emissions in real-time. With its sleek design and futuristic features, the camera sparked the students' imagination, igniting a flame of curiosity within them.

To kickstart their exploration, the teacher led a discussion on the concepts of heat and light. Through engaging anecdotes and interactive demonstrations, the students learned about the fundamental principles governing these phenomena. They eagerly absorbed information about thermal radiation, conduction, and the electromagnetic spectrum, their eyes widening with each new revelation.

With their newfound knowledge as their guide, the students eagerly picked up the thermal camera, ready to uncover the secrets hidden in their surroundings. As they pointed the device at various objects in the classroom, they were met with a mesmerizing display of colors and patterns on the camera's screen. The warm glow of their classmates' bodies contrasted against the cooler hues of the walls and furniture, creating a captivating tapestry of thermal signatures.

Excited chatter filled the room as the students began to make connections between the visualizations on the camera and the concepts they had learned. They observed how heat radiated from different sources, creating distinct patterns that hinted at the underlying processes at play. With each new observation, they gained a deeper understanding of how heat interacts with the world around them.”

  • Laser Sharp Learning

    Funded Nov 29, 2023

Hello and thank you so much for helping to fund all the accessories for my laser engraver. With your donations, I was able to get an air assist, Lightburn software, a camera, a set of safety goggles, and a laser height adjuster.

These different add-ons will help bring all the school laser engraving projects to the next level. The initial laser engraver is used to create unique rewards for the students at the school. However, these new accessories will make the rewards better. The air assist will help prevent each piece from getting too hot and burning. The Lightburn software, laser height adjuster, and the camera help with aligning the engraver to the perfect spot on each foundation being engraved on.

With your generous donation, students will still receive unique rewards, but in a much more streamlined, neat, and clean fashion.”

  • Laser Sharp Learning: Etched Forever in Inquiring Minds

    Funded Jul 12, 2021

I would like to say thank you for donations that funded this project for my students to have access to the AtomStack Laser Engraver. Both my students and I appreciated the generosity. When we received the Laser Engraver, the students were very excited to hear what we could create with this wonderful technology. In addition, they were very excited when I let them know that this was the only known Laser Engraver in all the district's Elementary schools currently.

I have made the process of laser engraving accessible for the students by repurposing a cart that can be rolled into the classroom for the student to see equipment and rolled outside to begin/complete the engraving process, from start to finish, to mitigate any issues with the smoke, fire, and laser light retinal damage. The teachers and I have communicated and collaborated on files we want to engrave. Currently we our continuing to learn how the software works and the proper speed and laser intensity to laser engrave on different materials. We have been laser engraving, student names, on wooden bookmarks. The students, teachers, and I are excited at the possibilities of engraving honor roll certificates, coasters with maps or educational content, and QR codes. Throughout the school year we will continue to learn more about laser engraving for the students to examine and manipulate to broaden their experiential backgrounds.”

    Funded Apr 27, 2021

I would like to say thank you for donations that funded this project for my students to have access to the Elegoo Mars 2 Pro and Mercury Wash and Curing Station. Both my students and I appreciated the generosity. When we received the 3D SLA Printer, the students were very excited to see what we could create with this wonderful technology. In addition, they were very excited when I let them know that this was the only known 3D SLA Printer in the whole district currently.

I have made the process of 3D SLA Printing safe for the students by repurposing a cart that can be rolled into the classroom for the student to see equipment and rolled out to complete the printing process, from start to finish, to mitigate any issues with the resin used for printing. The teachers and I have communicated and collaborated on files we print. Currently we have begun printing articulated slugs and school mascot Sharks for the student to earn as desk pets for demonstrating appropriate behavior. • View Learning Experiences In New A Way

    Funded Mar 1, 2019

I would like to say thank you again for donating the funds for my students to have access to the DJI Goggles for our classroom. Both my students and myself appreciate your generosity. When we received the goggles, my students were very excited to know our class had been the recipient of this wonderful technology. After I gave the students a chance to try the goggle on and explain how they would work with drone, we were all ready to incorporate it into our lesson.

We have been able to use the goggles attached to the drone to see and capture images around the school from angles never imagined. The pictures, videos, and experiences have led to numerous discussions amongst the students during lessons. I was able to give provide the students with "Planet Earth cinematography-esque" views of the school surrounding from over a hundred feet in the air. The students were able to look very closely at the tops of the very tall pine trees surrounding the playground. The students were able to get the feeling they were able to "fly" up to the sky during recess. This experience will allow them to create a writing sample, with perspective, as if they are a super heroes flying away to... We have also enjoyed looking for lost playground equipment on the roof.

The students are most excited about being able to see their world from a new perspective. The students are coming up with ideas for new places for us to record videos and pictures with the drone around the area and beyond. The goggle allow me to fly the drone more accurately and capture even more stunning images then before. I cannot wait to utilize the goggles with the drone, on road trips with fellow educators, to capture images of areas not traveled by our students and from new perspectives. The ability to bring the outside, remote and neighboring, into the classroom is making us think of new way to teach the content to the students.”

My third grade class is comprised of 20 students, 10 boys and 10 girls. They are a mixed ability group, some with gifted and special needs identification and some labeled ESL. The students come from diverse households that range from low income to middle class. They are very active and have their ups and downs like any other class. They are a technologically aware generation and able to use many electronic learning devices aside from school computers. The school I teach in is a Title 1 public elementary school that has socio-economical and multicultural diversity. 75% of our population receives free and reduced lunch. Our school has a large population of special needs students, including SECEP and severe and profound disabilities.
