  • Making Algebra Amazing with a MacBook

    Funded Oct 31, 2020

Having used a decade-old DOE-supplied laptop at the beginning of the pandemic, I cannot describe how transformative it is to use this brand-new MacBook Pro! Having sometimes 100 students on video on Zoom requires a powerful enough computer to handle it, and this MacBook has been seamless with my live video instruction.

Additionally, I can now use websites like Desmos, DeltaMath, and Geogebra that didn't work properly on my old laptop. There are so many more tools I'd like to explore out there.

In conjunction with the tablet that donors also so generously supplied me with, my remote classroom has been a huge success, almost mimicking what I do in an in-person classroom. While I look forward to returning one day to teaching in person, your generosity has made my remote classroom a joy for me and my students. Thank you again so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Law

  • Help Mr. Law Make Math Awesome with an iPad!

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

I cannot thank you enough how much your donations for the iPad have transformed my teaching remotely and benefitted my students. I am floored you all so generously gave so quickly, and especially to all my former students and parents of former students, seeing your names brought a flood of memories back to me. I am so proud to have been your teacher and to see how you've all grown into adults! (I feel so old.)

I use the iPad all the time. It allows me to teach a math lesson just like I do in school, but with the great added benefit that I can use and share great websites and apps with my students to use as well. The Apple Pencil and accessories have made it seamless for me to grade homework and tests, and give direct feedback to students, even though we're all in our homes.

Thank you so much again for your generosity and remembering ol' Mr. Law! My love to you all from the bottom of my heart.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Law

  • Graphing Calculators Please Please Please!

    Funded Dec 8, 2009

I cannot thank you enough for your generosity to my students and to our school. You so quickly funded this project, and my students have been using these great calculators for weeks now and love them!

As you know, in this economic downturn many students and their families have been struggling to make ends meet, much less able to afford expensive calculators. Yet because they are required for our statewide math exams, each student must have one. On top of this, our school budget was slashed millions of dollars and we definitely don't have the money to purchase these on our own. The best part is that these gifts will keep on giving as the calculators belong to the school and thus will be passed onto other students after the current ones graduate.

This is why we are so grateful for all of you—generous donors who don't even know us and yet gave in this time of great need. You can see from my students' faces how valuable these gifts are to us.

    Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Law

  • Graphing Calculators Desperately Needed!

    Funded Mar 11, 2009

I cannot thank you enough for the gift you have given my students of graphing calculators. As you can see, my students are incredibly happy using them—so much so that I have to remind them to look back up at the blackboard and to stop using their calculators. They have been a tremendous help with every unit I have taught this semester, particularly with the current unit on polar graphing. What is normally a dry and laborious process of graphing has become simple, accessible, and dare I say fun for the students!

In these trying economic times, your generosity could not have come at a better time. Some students in my classes are struggling to have even basic necessities because of their families' financial situation, and so purchasing a graphing calculator is impossible for them. The availability of calculators they can borrow from the school and keep throughout high school is a godsend for them and for me as a teacher.

We pride ourselves at our school for having an incredibly diverse student body—and so your gift is helping students in many communities around the city.

Thank you again for funding this project—and my students thank you too!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Law
