  • Snap Into STEM Engineering Activities!

    Funded Dec 19, 2023

My students have been so excited to be using these awesome tools you so kindly purchased for them. To see kids who do not have things like this at home, use their creative side and be so proud of their creation, it's priceless.

As the materials began to arrive, they were so excited to get them open and start creating. I have had robots crawling around my classroom, giant Marble Works structures, crazy sounds coming from the Snap Circuits sets, etc. I love every minute of it. It is fun to watch them when they surprise themselves with something they have built.

I have also been able to share some of these resources with other 5th grade classes and I will have these materials for my classes to come.

Again, I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. Your donation may be what makes one of my students create something one day that helps solve a scientific or engineering mystery.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Kiser

  • Rolling Through Math and Language Arts!

    Funded Sep 17, 2014

I just wanted to let you know that we have wasted no time putting these awesome resources to work. I posted pictures of the kids doing an English Language Development activity where they work in teams to create a story using the story cubes. They also have to write it on chart paper, draw a picture, and share it with the class. If you could hear the dialogue of their discussions, it would warm your heart. Those who struggle with English were encouraged by my English speakers. We are also using the writing cubes everyday during our free write time. The kids love the topics and have created some very entertaining stories. It's tools like these that are going to encourage the one who hates to write, the child who is shy and doesn't like to talk in front of the class, the student who is insecure in their English, to step outside their boundaries and take risks. None of this would be possible without your generosity. I will never be able to thank you enough.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Kiser

We are a 4th and 5th grade ESOL class from Oregon. Our school population is at 485 K-5 in a building that was built for 300. Class sizes are all around 30, so things are a little crowded, but we press on. Many of our families are on the free and reduced lunch program. Our students come from various ethnic groups, including Russian, Hispanic, Korean, and Anglo. We have a perfect mix and their smiling faces greet us every single day. It is a wonderful school and though we do expect the children to be successful, they also know it is a safe and caring place for them. We do a number of parent education nights, programs, academic nights, and any other activities where we can bridge the home to school gap. Our philosophy is that by getting parents more involved in their child's education it becomes a family thing instead of parents against the school. Myers is an amazing place to work and attend.
