I teach Technology and Makerspace to a high energy group of 3rd through 8th graders in a high need community in NJ. My students require a lot of hands-on materials in order to help them learn. Many students lack the foundation needed for technology for their grade level.
Our youngest students start by learning coding; however, many struggle to login and type properly. The upper elementary students work with more hands-on engineering concepts such as building model bridges, 3D design and printing, and electronics. The middle school age students work with coding for developing Websites, Digital Games and Animations, and Apps.
I try to include various other elements and projects that are outside of the curriculum to enrich their experiences. through the help of Donors Choose, the donors, the affiliates, and the partnerships I am able to make these projects come to life for my students.
