My students are familiar with technology no matter where they come from. In the United States, students become familiar with computers and iPads as early as Kindergarten. The purpose of this iPad would be to enhance social work sessions by addressing social/emotional and communication issues that affect many of my students through the use of apps, videos, and data collection tools. For example, with this iPad I can use Headspace or Calm to teach my students meditation and have them practice it as a coping strategy. The Touch and Learn Emotions app as well as iTouchiLearn feelings app helps with emotion identification. Furthermore, I will be able to record their social interactions and review them during sessions to address what they did well and how to improve. By donating to my project, I will have access to a variety of apps I can use to address the social and emotional skills deficits my students face. It is a tool that provides the platform for learning, communicating, and practicing skills. Students not only learn just by reading and writing, but also through watching and doing. Visuals and hands-on activities will supplement instruction they receive in the classroom as well as feedback from their teachers. Rather than just expressing themselves verbally, they can use apps and videos to identify, learn, and express themselves in a different ways.
