Part of science and STEM learning is engineering and designing solutions to problems. Right now students are limited to drawings, or poorly constructed models. A 3D printer will allow my students to see their solutions to come to life. 3D printing will help them to learn real-world design skills and then allow them to see their designs come to life. Students will be challenged to engineer solutions to problems, transfer those designs onto the computer, and then use the printed models to test their solutions before going to redesign. This teaches them engineering skills and allows them to see science concepts brought to life. 3D printing will also allow them to model difficult concepts taught in class. Sometimes science concepts are abstract and 3D printing can help to make them more tangible and easier to grasp.
