General Music, Here I Come!
Funded Sep 12, 2012Your donations have already improved my students' abilities to appreciate, read, and sing music! And I am so thankful.
The hand sign poster of the Kodaly hand signs is something that the children can't get enough of - they are always using their hands when singing Solfege.
The younger kids always get rewarded with the wonderful stickers that were purchased with the project.
The Dictaphone will allow me to quickly tape singers and then "grade" them at home based on their performances.
The younger children will also soon use the scarves in motion-based music, along with our cds of Hispanic Heritage music and general sing-along fun.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Gregory Durant

Funded Mar 21, 2012This support network amazes me. My students will definitely benefit from hearing songs played as examples over the new ipod/iphone dock instead of the ancient-old computer speakers. Plus, the dock is portable and that is going to be very helpful!
You have made a lasting imprint on our chorus with your gifts because we purchased a hard drive that is external. It will make sure that we never lose our photos or videos because of a computer crash, which happened to us earlier this year.
Thank you again.”

Mr. Gregory Durant
Standing Up for Our School!
Funded Feb 10, 2012I am very overwhelmed with the amount of support that I received from friends, family, colleagues, and even some very nice people that I have not yet met. The amount of money that you all gave (and some wonderful corporations were able to match) affirms my faith in our support system. When we can't received the funds that we need from our school districts or governments, I am elated that we can depend on the wonderful donations from all of our supporters.
With these risers, my students already have more confidence because they're "shiny", as one student called them. The students are rehearsing on them more regularly because I can use them (and easily transport them) in both my classroom and the auditorium.
My heart is open wide! Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Gregory Durant
Instruments for the Choral Classroom
Funded Sep 28, 2011You want to know the most exciting part about this project? My choir students will finally be able to work with instruments (other than their voices and the piano) during rehearsals and for our performance in early November. They really do love singing so much.
It's been a hard but worthwhile struggle to create this chorus program here in the tri-state area and so many students love everything that we do. They love the songs we sing and the way that we read music. Now they'll be able to add a few, small instruments into that mixed bag of learning!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Gregory Durant
The Last Choral Hurrah (Of 2010-2011 School Year) !!
Funded Apr 21, 2011My students can't get over how wonderful my new, more "professional" conductor's stand looks. When I pull up on it, this new one no longer comes off. Although, it was good for a laugh every time I would adjust it, I am happy to welcome the new conductor's stand!
The musical timeline is going to be used well in the coming years because it is quite detailed and my students love finding out certain tidbits of information. Boy, when they saw Michael Jackson up there, they loved that!
The metronome, although annoying to some ears, is really going to keep us on beat more frequently!
Thank you for all the warmness this year!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Gregory Durant
Help My Choir With Real Choir Folders!
Funded Mar 4, 2011On March 24, 2011 our school performed a combined piece (with dance, chorus, and poetry) that was commemorating the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire of 1911. At its 100th anniversary, we performed this amazing piece of art.
Many kudos have flown in via email and audible congratulatory means. I want to thank you for your donation that helped purchase the black chorus folders that you see in these photos. They were a wonderful addition to our concert that night.
My students and I sincerely thank you for all 53 of the folders that will make us an even better choir!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Gregory Durant
Microphones For Our March '11 Concert!
Funded Dec 22, 2010Wow, last night's concert raised their confidence because of your contribution. The microphones that were purchased with your donations amplified the sounds of all three of my choruses. We sound loud and proud and we greatly thank each one of you!
The Stevie Wonder Anthology was a nice addition to our growing library of contemporary music by black musicians. I have a few sophomore women who are learning to play melodies on the piano during any "extra" rehearsal time and they were playing 'Isn't She Lovely' a few days ago.
With all of the supplies, it felt like a different group was singing last night. Louder and more confident than ever. ”
With gratitude,
Mr. Gregory Durant
This classroom project was brought to life by American Express Members Project and 3 other donors.Small Dry Erase Music Staff Boards
Funded Oct 27, 2010Or, I should say Susie! Again, I just wanted to thank you greatly for your gift. I received the boards already (on Thursday) and began to use them in class on Friday.
Fridays are always a bit shorter than the rest of the week and my kids rehearsed "Silver Bells" and "Sleigh Ride" quickly and accurately this week, so we played a game with the new boards on Friday! As you can see from the pictures, the kids were collaborating in teams of 3-5 while drawing note values, pitches (and sometimes the combinations thereof), providing vocabulary, and practicing drawing the Treble clef.
The winners were given treats (multi-grain breakfast bars, of course)!
I am excited to use these boards continuously and also with my older students, who still love to play games. Competition is healthy, right?
We are very thankful!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Gregory Durant
