Organizing The Sheet Music
Funded Jan 1, 2025I'm so happy to have your support! The kids have already noticed how much nicer the spaces look.
When you're organized, as a teacher, you inspire further organization in your children's minds, folders, bookbags and all the spaces they use. If they see that you're doing something one way, many times they emulate this.
These shelves are already helping use valuable vertical space that otherwise was not being used in our music room.
I'm very thankful for your help, anonymous and friends alike.”

Mr. Gregory Durant
20th Year Special!
Funded Aug 27, 2024I'm so thankful for each and every one of you. Your donations have already had a huge, huge impact.
The chair that elevates me has the children's attention directly on me whether we are rehearsing music or if I'm reading a story. This week is the puppet of the Old Lady Who Swallowed the Fly!
The folders are a huge, huge help because the music is secure with the metal fasteners and stay in the room. See the photos for the color-coded grades!
The pencil sharpener is a big help, too, because all the kids needs be able to use their pencils to mark their music.
I'm so grateful!”

More Inclusion Matters
Funded Aug 27, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donations. I was able to get this project funded in a timely manner. The first book that I've slid into the rotation was "The Frog Prince" and the kids love the rhythm and fun melody.
The next one up is celebrating all families and all foods - reminding us all that we come from different places and that with respect for ourselves and others, we can make the world a better and safer place.
As I continue to slide these new books into the year's scope and sequence rotation, please know how much you have helped these children be seen!”

Mr. Gregory Durant
Hey, Music Teacher - Go Teach Kindergarten!
Funded Dec 15, 2020I'm very thankful for your help in expanding our learning centers into this decade. Dolls that look like our children, LEGOs that are big and accessible and play doh tools that encourage students to describe what they're building and why they're building them. All of these items will help.
Thank you.”

Mr. Gregory Durant
Sight-Reading in 2020
Funded Aug 11, 2020You all made me so happy today! And now I have to follow through on that promise I made on social media. But it'll be worth it - totally!
I'm very thankful for your support, alongside Bill & Melinda Gates's Foundation for the matching donations.
The kids will absolutely use these resources as we navigate through this coming year - as weird as it will be.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Gregory Durant

Funded Aug 27, 2019It's been about a month since all students got their access to sight-reading accounts of their own. It's been pretty great so far. Students have the ability to sight-read at home as part of a weekly homework grade and I already hear a difference in their abilities.
Very soon, we will be changing levels of difficulty, usually done in early December but since they have their accounts, now I can do it in November.
This is an added tool to help students succeed and I am so grateful, as they are!”

Funded Sep 14, 2018I love, love, love these books. My students are hearing some of our time-tested traditional pieces of music for the very first time. From Ba, Ba, Blacksheep to Zin, Zin A Violin we have been having a great time with these storybooks.
Many times I'm able to show the students a video afterward and they make the connection that the melody remains the same from what Mr. Durant sang to the video.
These little kids love each of the stories. Spooky Halloween stories, Thanksgiving and Christmas themes are sometimes the absolutely favorite!”

Cover Our Baby
Funded Dec 25, 2017I am thrilled that our baby grand piano is covered with a well-made (very comfortable) fabric. The students noticed it right away and could tell me why we needed it. They know that taking care of instruments is important and that will stick with them forever and seep into other facets, too.
Each student that uses it knows how to open it up and return it to its shape after they're done with the piano. It also protects it from any liquids or worse.
The students have noticed how soft the fabric is, too. Thank you so much!”

Books and Videos for the Music Tots!
Funded Oct 18, 2017I really can't describe how wonderful it was to watch The Sound of Music with my music club this past month on Friday afternoons. The excitement they received from that famous film was exactly the excitement I had while I grew up. That love of music that Maria shows her children (and the Captain, too) infects all of us. As my older students were aware, they made connections with WWII and even connections to our current political climate.
I am so excited that many of my students will be able to continue their visual learning with books and their aural training with songs from the multitude of books that you funded. My younger students really love learning and putting a song with a book is an excellent way for a melody to stick.”

Funded Nov 15, 2016Thank you so much for the donations that made this purchase possible. My students are able to use these new choral folders and wow - do they look good!
My students wear uniforms to school and they look so good with those choral folders. We have some exciting performances coming up so they transport the folders to and from school in order to practice their music at home or during vacation periods.
They are being taught responsibility by taking care of these folders. They also have been enjoying using the Solfege handsign (Kodaly) posters!
Thank you, again!”

Mr. Gregory Durant
