  • Library of Plays for Young Actors

    Funded May 9, 2012

There are so many reasons I want to thank you for the texts you helped purchase for our growing theater program. It is impossible to make quality theater happen without new and different material to pull from. You have made possible some amazing things with your gift. Students now have access to resources that will challenge and mold them. These monologues and scenes that you helped provide have given students the ability to hone their craft and become the best actors and actresses that they can be. For this we I am extremely grateful.”

    With gratitude,

  • Spotlight on a Spotlight

    Funded Dec 31, 2011

Greetings from our theater department. We have just wrapped up our spring play which came together swimmingly and received wide acclaim. Let's just say our school newspaper approved of every aspect. :) Your incredible gifts made possible the beginnings of technical excellence in our show. By far the most talked about element of the play was the lighting provided by our brand new spotlight. Your gift has taken our program to another level technically and for this we thank you. Please stay tuned to www.donorschoose.com/mrbrame for the next opportunity to support this artistic and educational work. We are hoping to purchase some more light fixtures and a dimmer board very soon. ”

    With gratitude,

  • Young Actors Classroom Library

    Funded May 31, 2011

Thank you so much to each of you for your very thoughtful contribution to our burgeoning Theater program. When you help to purchase a play you are giving actors a way to create. You provide the essential materials.

There are no better essential materials than the works of Roald Dahl. He has a way of capturing stories that is suited to staging with Young Actors like we have he at our school. You are a true blessing to us and we will be forever grateful for your generous gift.

I encourage you to look for other ways to support arts in the classroom on Donor's Choose and in your local community. Thank you again for your kindness.”

  • The Actors Library

    Funded Apr 7, 2011

I have received the plays and have already had students engaged in pulling monologues from them. These classics of the American Stage are finding new life in our school. It has been really rewarding to see these students take on this academically and artistically challenging enterprise. Allowing young people to become familiar with these great plays can only inspire them to greatness of their own. I thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for helping to bring about a more equal access to the performing arts in the urban core. This contribution to the Actor's Library will be making a difference for years to come.”

My students are from a very high needs background but they love to perform. A typical member of my theater program will be an active learner, a natural performer, or even the class clown. When given the opportunity to take the stage they shine. Our school has over 500 students and roughly half will take a theater class over the course of the year. The school has zero budget for arts programs but does support teachers who can work within those terms. We have a thriving program going on its 7th year made possible completely through donations. The students are so grateful to have access to new materials and will make great use of every possible donation.
